Actually his face is totally blank: He can’t just suddenly ‘smile’.
 
Even the more advanced depictions of Slenderman don’t have him “smile”: It’s just a slit that opens on both sides, not something that curves like a smile.
 
And that makes even less sense: If it was JEFF than I’d say “Okay, he’s happy to kill” but considering it’s a creature that doesn’t derive pleasure from death and kills primarily for ‘purpose’… it, again, doesn’t work.
