Gives her a hug. You’ll always be my favorite pony, S1 Luna.

The rest of the other ponies suck. S1 Luna was the only pony I liked in the entire fim t.v. series and they got rid of her after the two-part pilot in Season 1. Pity, I would’ve loved to see her in more epsoides. But hey I only had to by the S1 boxset and that’s it. Saves me money. :P

S1 Luna: Drops a comb on my lap. “Brush my mane pls?”
“Sure.” Starts brushing her.

Present Luna: “Hey! What about me? I want my mane brushed too.”

“Um, I can’t. Your mane’s just an transparent magic aura now remember? The comb will just go right through your mane without touching anything…”

Tries to brush Present Luna’s mane but the comb goes right through her transparent mane.

“…See what I mean?”

Present Luna: “Aw, I forget about that…” :(

S1 Luna: “Ha, who’s the lame princess now?” :P

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Old Fanon Luna sucked. She was Fluttershy 2: Electric Scootaloo. Modern Luna is awkward, but she’s so hammy and in charge and just doesn’t give a fuck she’s cool.

I read a fic like that, including the whole “Celestia goes incognito and befriends the Six” thing, but I don’t remember the name. The show focuses entirely on the Six, Spike, and the CMC, so I don’t expect any character development or greater plot involvement from either sister.

Talk about a self-insert!

But seriously, I understand what you mean when you talk about potential but the sad part is it all comes down to how much the writers care and if seasons 1 and 2 are any indicator, they don’t care too much. Hopefully they’ll prove me wrong.

Well just for Celestia alone, there’s tons of character potential. She’s got that “I’m saddled with an ungodly amount of responsibility and authority, but I’m still just a regular girl that wants to have regular fun and regular friends” thing going on. There’s so much they could do with that.

Basic scenario: Celestia gets bored one day, and decides to visit Ponyville… in disguise. She befriends the Mane 6 along the course of the day by dabbling in their respective interests, as Celestia has seen and done a lot and can appreciate all of it. At the end of the day, they’re all chilling in the library. Through dialogue with Twilight, Celestia accidentally lets slip personal information that only Celestia could know, and Twilight calls her out. Celestia drops the act, and they all bow reverently. Celestia, none too pleased at all, challenges this with “Does my title make me any less suited to being your friend?” etc. etc.

Boom, there’s an important friendship lesson RIGHT THERE. And don’t get me started with Luna.

Yes they do deserve better but it would be a little difficult to write in two very important ponies into the story unless something important was actually happening. But who knows, the writers like to go nuts with that sorta thing anyways. Yeah they deserve more screentime but it won’t change how much we already love them.

Luna had to get an episode, because she was basically an important character but didn’t appear for upwards of an entire season. Celestia’s overdue, she’s been around since the pilot and is basically still just a plot device. And not a very effective one, at this point. She gets a name-drop at the end of each episode, and that’s about it. Luna still… Does pretty much nothing.

They deserve a lot better.

At first people hated Luna, for about a month, then everybody loved her because she was small, helpless and socially awkward as fuck. That was around the time Tyrant Celestia became a thing. Now everybody still loves Luna, she’s not small and helpless but she’s still socially awkward as fuck. Celestia and Luna still get plenty of love but the scale tips more towards Luna because she got an actual gorram episode. C:
