Oh Reflections arc…I kind of liked it. It wasn’t a good comic strip, but it had plenty of moments.

I personally loved the idea of Celestia and Starswirl travelling between parallel universes and that’s one of the reasons Equestria has such varrying tech levels.

Still, it had quite a few problems, I admit.

@LuminoZero
Yeah, but the show is getting better…it probably will never get as dark and serious as the comics can, but eh. What can you do. Loved that arc.

Yeah, that was one of those things where you realize that the way you phrased it changed what you actually said just after I posted it. I meant that it was something that seemed upvote worthy but then kinda messed with me due to personal reasons. Like the gif. says I wasn’t gonna upvote or downvote I just choose a weird way of phrasing my reaction which sounds kinda whiny in retrospect.

Ha ha!

Because this is actually attempting to give her character and making her in any way capable, while the story it’s based on did it’s best to make her INcapable because she just really, really liked her OC, and wanted to make Celestia imperfect so that her more perfect OC could shine.

And now you know why these comics read like bad Fimfiction. It’s pretty much based on it.

Is she getting rid of the always in this? I honestly can’t tell. Because I was thinking of upvoting but if so, due to personal reasons, now maybe downvoting.

Thing is, the comics were the only harbor where Celestia was being treated properly.

And then comes Reflections and utterly demolishes that. This is what Katie Cook thinks makes Celestia a better character. This is who she’ll be in histories from now on.

And Season 5 hints that it will be the same thing as Season 4: With Celestia completely gone.

It’s just… hopeless. There’s no hope for Celestia whatsoever, they might as well retcon her out of existence.

Hey man, yeah at first I hoped they would do Celestia some justice.

I try to stay hopeful that we won’t see him again because of 3 facts (well 2 general and 1 for the show):

  1. The Elements of Harmony are gone and put back into the Tree of Harmony; we know from the opening of season 4 the elements were returned to their rightful place and it don’t look like their coming out anytime soon. And their new rainbow powers don’t function in the same way because they did not purify Tirek at the end of season 4.

  2. The mirror is broken: Celestia never made those mirrors with Starswirl so she has no knowledge of their construction. This one is a little fuzzy because we have to assume Cook or Price won’t just say they used a “magic spell” to fix a very complicated and one of a kind piece of interdimensional equipment. I don’t have much respect for either of their creative abilities so take with that what you will, but it seems unlikely to me.

  3. Hasbro won’t force people to read a comic to understand an episode from the show.
LuminoZero

This would have actually made that entire train wreck of a comic arc good at the end.

Or at least ended it on a good note.

Escapee from Alcatraz
@RIG
No, he isn’t. At least Flash had the decency of keeping his mouth shut and being virtually useless to the plot. Black Brad not only is as boring and bidimensional as he is, but he actually MATTERS in the plot, and the plot is worse for it.

HE DENIED ME FUCKING PHOENIX CELESTIA. THAT’S FUCKING BULLSHIT.

@GregSamsa
Y’now, Black Brad IS pretty much the textbook definition of a Mary Sue. A new character who is considered very beautiful, smart, and intelligent. He’s completely absolved of the blame of his relationship with Celestia, he’s always portrayed, he has no discernible flaws, and he’s the one that ultimately solves the conflict using artifacts established in the series that, by all logic that we’ve been given, should not work for him, but work regardless, and he has a grand heroic sacrifice that is mourned by other characters.

Though my problems with him is less that he’s a Mary Sue and more that he’s a completely boring fuck that screwed over Celestia’s only chance to be taken seriously as a character.
GregSamsa

@RIG
Oh no Im not saying it without meaning, from what I saw in those comics the character I am referring to is very one dimensional in his personality. I think his defining character trait was that he’s “good” in every way, couple that with the fact that hes written in such a way as to be so charming and to “know better” in every single instance, it reminds me of other examples of “perfect characters” in stories. And the term Mary Sue does have a real definition and therefore a meaning, another pseudonym for it would also be an Author Surrogate.

That would have been such a better ending. Wouldn’t have saved it from being crap, but at least it would have Celestia actually developing from the experience.

that word without meaning again, i think is time to find a new work…which will be abused again to the point of meaning lost, making all this pointless.
