That’s the label. Just looked it up, and they seem to produce rather cool deluxe editions.
It also seems Rainbo Records presses their records, though. Not a perfect pressing plant, that’s for sure.

I expect the exact same thing from this. Honestly though, I won’t pay the $24.99 they’re asking for it, definitely wouldn’t be worth that much. Even the Lazaretto ULTRA LP is cheaper!
I also wonder where the LP’s will be pressed…

I was slightly wrong; surprisingly, while CD is indeed behind, as of the time of that linked Billboard article, physical distribution as a whole still has a slight lead when factoring in other media.

Oh dang, you’ve got me worrying again about some of my older CDs, many of which would be difficult and/or expensive to replace…

I’ve got some pretty good VBR MP3s of all my CDs, but do you have any recommendations for lossless CD ripping?

That’s only partly true. While single track sales have long overtaken physical media, it is actually only so far this year that electronic sales of albums have beaten physical media in terms of units. Indeed, over the last few years, sales have been roughly tied, with a slight lead by physical despite a trend toward electronic. Also according to Billboard Magazine, even compilation CDs (like the NOW! series) are still generally popular retail items in America despite the ease of purchasing individual “hot” tracks and singles.

Of course, CDs are effectively just containers for digital audio (and not particularly dependable ones, given the sudden rise of well-stored older retail CDs decaying). I am perfectly happy with audio files and ironically have more nostalgic attachment to those because of my growing up during the Winamp era. I treat CDs as shareable keepsakes and as a means of acquiring music rips of material not found in an archival-quality lossless format online. As examples of both, I personally have coming through the mail a CD of Applescal’s Dreaming in Key that was bought alongside a FLAC purchase and an extended reprint of Modern English’s last 4AD release (Ricochet Days) that has a date with EAC.

Physical or not, I would love to see a lossless release of the MLP soundtrack. (Yes, lossless is generally overkill for listening thanks to the transparency of modern psychoacoustic techniques, yet it maintains the data integrity that is desired for archival and does not suffer from transcoding artifacts when used on a video, remixed, or simply converted to a customized lossy format. Also, I’ve been burned too many times in my life by poor MP3 rips.)

None if the store link stays down but I would estimate a couple hundred on the higher end. According to another article, it’ll be on CD. It seems Hasbro is banking on some seriously memorable tracks coming from the next movie, unlike the famous tunes from the actual show that have yet to warrant a physical release at all (and in the case of the latest OST, releasing outside iTunes or Spotify streaming).

The vinyls will almost certainly all be produced from 24/96 digital masters, though, and Ingram’s work tends to have good dynamic range in the first place, making an “audiophile” master less likely. In other words, this is more a collector’s item. I’d honestly be more interested in a CD or other lossless release. Also, the current link 404s on me.

Perhaps they’re just testing the market, and if this sells well, we’ll see more of them…

Admittedly though… as much as I love the main serie’s music, the Cafeteria Song is the only MLP song I know right off hand that’d really kick with a good set of hi-fi speakers.
