Both Shining Armor and Cadance were more useful to Chrysalis alive. Shining because he was an incredibly powerful source of magical “love energy”, and Cadance because, well, stealing her fiancé was a lot more fun than just killing her.

Why didn’t Chrysalis kill him when she had the chance? Doing that would have ensured her plan’s success. Either kill her or Cadance. A bit harsh I know but isn’t that supposed to be her MO?
