c h i l lAt least Starlight Glimmer will be your friend.
“My Little Pony: Friendship is Legally-obligated.” :P
If there are ever times when the Magic of Friendship are not lasers, the Magic of Friendship is also a metaphor for court-mandated therapy. ;D
Still, after the Season 5 finale, she’s at least not willing to allow everything to be destroyed/ruined just to spite Twilight, like Starlight Glimmer was. Trixie may have ego-problems, but Glimmer is downright psychopathic, and a bit sociopathic too. And Glimmer had no influence from an evil artifact either, all her actions were her own fault.
For that reason alone, I think Trixie is a horrible pony. She was merely annoying in her first appearance, downright vengeful in her second, despite the amulet.
What happened to her also matched the known effects of the Alicorn Amulet, which she was wearing, so I think that’s pretty strong evidence that Trixie was not in full control of herself, and that somepony needs to throw that amulet into a volcano.
‘Ere now, I never met the pony. That’s slander, that is.
You have, in fact, hit the nail on the head. The only thing we can do to fill in those details is imagine - because there is absolutely no evidence in the show to suggest anything about what happened.
Whether someone genuinely hates Trixie and imagines that her tale of humiliation and rock farms is simply a BS sob story and that Trixie got the money by robbing banks and mugging ponies, or whether one is of the opposite conviction and imagines a heartrending rags-to-riches story filled with hardship, hunger, determination, and sacrifice - it’s all imaginary (that is, more imaginary than the already imaginary show itself) and if someone cannot accept that and demands that their headcanon be treated as fact, I have to take exception.
Personally, I take Trixie’s tale at face value, and I imagine that when she hit rock (farm) bottom, she screwed up her determination and hatched a plan to get back at Twilight Sparkle and restore credibility to her claim of being the most powerful unicorn in Equestria - by cheating in a magic duel.
I don’t think she did anything particularly illegal (or clop-worthy) to make that money, nor do I have a firm opinion about how much she knew about the danger of the Alicorn Amulet beyond the fact that it could help her cheat - but I do think that she planned to challenge and humiliate Twilight before she was under the influence of the amulet. That grin she gets when she acquires the amulet just doesn’t strike me as the elated smile of a pony, happy to restart her career - that’s an evil grin, if ever there was one.
All of that is pure speculation, based solely on my estimation of Trixie’s character and only vague hints in the show’s material. I’d never state any of this as if it were factual.
Very true. This is one reason why I take her story in “Magic Duel” at face value and entirely agree with Twilight that Trixie’s behaviour is suspiciously out of character; far meaner than anyone could expect from her earlier appearance. This and her increasingly irrational derangement during the episode lend credence to that interpretation.
It’s okay, that’s because my engris is originated from яussian
nah, you seem pretty coherent to me.
‘Kay, I’m a big time Japanophile, so I have a small amount of Engrish translating experience, and even I can’t understand your posts. <_<;
Not that i tell you that she is an innocent blossom of moral beauty, but trying to explain why i think 1 that she is not
It’s futile to explain my point further as there is a concrete wall of your own opinion, as well as it is already fully told.
And returning to 1 i’d like to note that my initial commentary were not intended to impose views of well respected auditory, but to leave small mark of my opinion here, which as seen should not have been done. I thought that were pretty obvious, maybe my engrish is that bad indeed?
It was stated in the show that Trixie was destitute and had to work on a rock farm just to earn enough to eat. It’s also canon in the show that she sucked at working on a rock farm. One can only imagine and clop off to what she probably did to earn that whole bag of bits. It probably wasn’t just working on a rock farm.
Some of that makes sense. But we do see several other itinerants who are jerks. One other travelling entertainer who’s a jerk. Well, the jerk and his jerk …puppets… Plus Flim and Flam. When you consider the personality for friendship-dependent ponies to be on the road with no permanent friends, it’s probably a profession that is tolerable only to those with some jerk tendencies.
One thing you leave out though is that when the Ursa “attacked,” Trixie didn’t run. In a town where she had no real connections, against a foe she knew she had basically no chance to beat, she did at least try. That reveals the content of her character too.
@DEM 404
However, Trixie was an abusive jerk in both her episodes. I agree with you that her motivation to get the Alicorn Amulet was strictly to give her the power to restore her reputation and fame, and that most of the actual cruelty was the amulet’s effects on her. I also agree the Mane Six (mostly Spike and Rarity) were jerks to her first in “Boast Busters”. She was just putting on a self-aggrandizing magic show that apparently at least some of Ponyville liked, and Spike and Rarity were heckling her rather than walking away. Her response to the heckling was even more inappropriate, and she treated even her two top fans like crap. And none of that can be blamed on an amulet she wouldn’t have for another two seasons. That, though, doesn’t change that she did try to set things right. She’s a flawed character, with a good heart hiding behind some bad habits and a lack of friendship that rivals early Twilight.
