Actually, one wrinkle to this story I’ve always wanted to see is a The Dark Knight Returns story with a morality flip. That is, have a group of people realize that Mare Do Well curbed many dangerous elements in Equestria, and so decide to bring her back by making Rainbow Dash into a gigantic puffed up idol for the entire town, if not country, to force Mare Do Well to return…and then kill Rainbow Dash to make sure she stays. So the story basically becomes a murder prevention investigation, all while asking questions about what makes a true hero, the concept of the hero vs what the hero represents, the value of one life against the salvation of a town or country, and the other Mane Girls trying to figure out if what they did to their friend was right after all.
