Artist that you tire of

Atryl is good. There’s something about the way he draws eyes though. They’re nice, but there’s just… something about them. Something that bothers me.

Atryl is the reason why I decided to try learning the basics of art. I know I will never be as good as him, but he’s inspiring.

And JJ: the motherfucker tells stories, and his art is perfectly adapted to it. The only unfortunate thing is that he ended up feeling obligated to obey the wishes of a howling mass of demanding fans.  
And who can blame him for that, because fandoms and tumblr ask-format blogs are both famous for fans screaming at artists until they get what they want out of them.
 
The obvious solution is for us to start threads bitching about artists until they do what we want them to do follow their dreams. Who wants to go next?

I don’t bitch about them because i’m an ungrateful fuck. :/ No person is exempt from critique, no matter how skilled. Just because I’m not as practiced or skilled in what they do does not mean I cannot complain about them. For example, there are unquestionably bad games out there. Do I have no right to complain about them just because I don’t have any computer science skills?
 
It’s not a question of if these artists suck(they don’t, they’re incredibly talented), it’s a question of them slacking and putting a halt to their creative growth (trust me, it shows when someone half asses something) and doing the same thing over and over, or skimping on effort for paid works (which can be problematic).
 
While it’s fun to label complainers as free loading douchebags, it’s not at all accurate and kind of insulting.

This thread isn’t “provide criticism for artists”, it’s “what artists are you tired of”. If your goal is to say something that might help an artist improve, you’re in the wrong thread; this one’s about whining.

I think you may be overly protective of artists, being in the same boat.
 
Yes the thread title seems like an invitation for bashing but none of that really happened yet did it? I don’t think people here intended to pick on hard working (esp. rookie) artists. Just respectfully comment on stuff they have picked on from the long time these people have been around. Doesn’t exclude love for those artists, yknow? Didn’t see one inappropriate comment yet?  
But pre emptively declaring everyone a bunch of ungrateful whiners? You should give your forumites a bit more faith?

I feel like this thread is just people complaining about artists not catering to their particular tastes.  
Why do any of you feel like you can dictate what artists can or cant do? Most of us (including me) draw ponies as a form of fun and it is enjoyable to do. I like to relax after a day of drawing other stuff for other people, by drawing the stupidest looking ponies I can think of.
 
You complain to us if we change up the style claiming that “the old way was better.” and you’ll complain to us if we don’t. It’s a lose-lose situation.
 
This type of self-entitlement attitude and double standards is what I despise and I go out of my way letting you all know that I don’t take any of this garbage. You want me to draw what you want? You can become a client and then I will go on to draw anything you want me to do…..as long as you pay my prices and sign my contracts. Because I’m tired of being walked on by people like you.
 
You don’t like this harsh reality check? Want to see something different? Allow me to point you to a pen and a piece of paper sitting on the table next to you. Put the pen to the paper and start with basic shapes laying out your characters. Spend an hour meticulously shading with cross hatchin- WHY YOU DRAWING PONIES THAT WAY?! THAT LOOKS STUPID!! YOU ALWAYS DRAW THEM THAT WAY AND I DON’T PARTICULARLY LIKE IT SO IM GOING TO COMPLAIN!!

To be fair. Very few comments seem to be what you mentioned here. Most that actually relate to the topic appear to be (minor) criticisms people have about an artist.

I know a lot of artists think Derpibooru is full of a bunch of idiots who don’t appreciate their art, but what I think we have in that case is a culture clash.
 
Partially exacerbated by people who try to troll and end up causing users to be skeptical of certain behaviors.

You know, looking back over this thread… There really isn’t any complaining. 9/10ths of the posts are people complaining about the people who complain about artists.

I feel there is a lot of confirmation bias + tunnel vision going on here in this forum. My rebuttal to your claims would completely derail this thread from it’s topic of: “I have gotten bored of the way you do things.”  
If you want my counter arguments, shoot me a private message, and I’d be happy to follow through.

Can we just like, admit some artists are well…jerks? Not saying this devalidates their effort and work, but i do find it hard to like someone’s work, visual or not, if they’re an asshole. I may have brought this up in a previous post, but still.
 
This might be stirring the bee’s hive and make me look like a prick, but sometimes there are situations where it feels like people can get away with being a jerk because they have a skill.
 
I remember once someone for a year had their girlfriend take credit for their art, knowing a girl would get more attention, and overall giving his GF an ego boost. Once it got out, he never said sorry. He didn’t give a shit, he was just a jerk, but hey, he can draw porn for you, so he’s obviously exempt. This applies to not just art though, but anything really. Holy damn if anyone can figure out who I’m talking about XD I actually made a couple things for this person when he was pretending, so I felt really, really betrayed once I figured out what was up.
 
Basically what I’m trying to say, is don’t judge people who talk down to some artists so hastily, sometimes they might have a point.

Yeah, for me it’s about seperating artist critique (not that I’m even so worthy as to offer any) from personality. I think Pikapetey’s immature trolling, for example, is counterproductive and annoying but his animation is full or personality, is very fluid, and it seems to be done manually as opposed to using easier or quicker flash methods. I completely respect his craft and his ability to create wonderful things.
 
That doesn’t mean that I’m not annoyed when he spams the booru with 1000 frames of the same animation and hosts livestreams asking people to troll with a smug sense of self satisfied superiority. And of course, TSP bringing up cuteosphere and ponett is a great example as well.
 
I think what bothers me most is seeing artists turn against other artists. I mean, you could understand a group of angry SJW or bored kids just piling on someone but you figure that if you’re an artist you’d have some level of respect for the time and effort other artists put into their work.

Artists often discourage other artist’s work, encourage censorship, act like their art is free of criticism, and in general maintain poor relations with the group that their art is targeted towards.
 
And they wonder why some have a stereotype of artists as whiny babies who will make absolutely everything that bugs them into a little comic about how right they are.

Frankly the people you/I are referring to are not what I would call artists. They’re assholes that happen to be able to draw. I would expect the title of “artist” to apply to people that are not only good at creating art, but are able to respect other artists.
 
Otherwise we may as well claim that the guy that writes fliers for the KKK is an author just because he has good grammar and sentence structure.

See, there’s where I would disagree. They’re artists, yes, just so happens that they’re also assholes. Sorry, but anyone who picks up a drawing instrument and puts it to paper/tablet is an artist.
 
Certain artists are just unrepentant assholes, and it almost seems that they’re more likely to be assholes.

I would prefer there be another term for these sort of people. Something that says “yes, they can do pretty things” but highlights “they have no respect for other people that do pretty things and are petty children”.
 
It just feels wrong to place those people in the same group as, say, moe.
