9th Anniversary Art Event

 
Well, here we go. I wanted to do something bigger and more complex at first, but starting work on my master’s thesis really ate up my free time these last weeks. Then again, making another simple crayon style doodle animation like for the last two anniversaries also was nice.
 
I hope the picture fits the theme enough, but like I said in the description, “the book […] started with a lone purple unicorn and ended with a purple princess of friendship and her friends living their dreams”, so I guess it should be fine, right?

so, this is my contribution for the Friendship Is Magic 9th Anniversary Art Celebration. I spent several minutes doodling this on Microsoft Paint. it didn’t come out so good, but that’s as good as I did using a mouse and keyboard.
 
I don’t know if my submission is acceptable though. I feel I did not follow the prompt properly as I deviated from canon (I drew Glim Glam reaching her dream of becoming an alicorn). if this doesn’t suffice for a new badge for me, it’s okay. there’s always next year.

I am attempting to sketch a thing now as I thought we had until the end of the month on this so I was putting it off a bit.
 
Would a super partially finished thing work to some degree if I don’t manage to finish this terrible sketchy thing tonight? Work tomorrow means I only have a few hours at most now to finish this thing.

Sometimes it’s the heart that counts more than the experience.  
If there is enough heart then something can still be pretty and cute, regardless.

It’s hard to notice (maybe not even visible?) in the big battle,  
but you can see the cute beads at end of Tempest’s scarf during the coronation.

Took a bit but my scanner did actually still work despite years of neglect (basically been using it as a small table for heavy things).
 
Anyway…. here’s the thing:
 

Good news, bad-ish news, and more good news.
 
Good News: I got a new battery and can continue where I left off.
 
Bad-ish News: I fear that I won’t be able to finish that specific picture in time for the deadline.
 
Other Good News: I drew another picture in time for the deadline that fits the prompt. I also plan on finishing the picture I was working on anyways.

Funny enough, this picture was a work in progress one too. I had Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer with her in the WIP progress picture.

Me too. I can’t take credit for it though. TJpones drew a picture of Tempest with a prosthetic crystal horn and I just really liked it.

I wanted to have a finished painting, but life intervened - I literally just got the stitches out a couple hours ago. But I don’t want to show up empty hooved for this significant event, so here is my pencil drawing :)
 

 
Cranky and Matilda are for me one of the sweetest “achieving their dreams” stories of FiM :)
 
Once my arm heals I’ll be working on finishing this for real :)

I was disappointed to find out Cranky had only a few short comedy moments left in the show, had actually hoped he’d play a bigger role once more.

Makes sense. Since I’m kind of going for a minimal approach for mine too, I may add them for that reason as well.

So this is temporary… I’m going to change a ton of stuff in the next week or so.. shouldn’t have waited until the last day to do it..  
Yes, I know Rarity is missing.. I didn’t have the model on my computer for some reason and.. I’ll add her on the next version
