@toxicitzi
You sound pissed and a little childish.
If I point out the contradiction in saying I’m “Looking for people to blame for this” and saying “Everyone hated it except the bad guys” right afterward, would you get it?

you make a good point, but only about how I said what I said and I’m here to argue over semantics like a politician, so I’ll instead clarify.
I don’t believe I’m wrong in saying the people that benefit the most out of these 2 articles, they are most likely to stand by it out of anyone else. That’s politician term-speak btw, what I mean by that is what I said before, as a corporation and owner of brands, it is unethical to hold everyone accountable for not having the right means of an automated system censoring everything, which is the only way what they were suggesting could have been added, a scorched earth approach in terms of IP Protection, similar to papers such as PIPA and SOPA, where any usages of name, images, anything, regardless of context or anything, is Copyright infringement.

This is my understanding of it, If this law were going to force companies, small and big, to get an automated system that filters out everything that could be potentially copyright infringements, then that would be a service to the big brand owners and that would’ve been a service the big brand owners Wouldn’t have paid to any of these companies, that these companies would have respectively had to pay out of their own pockets, for the entire benefit of those big brand owners, whom are the only ones to my knowledge that would have had this kind of grand tier copyright protection.

now you can tell me yours wasn’t conspiracy theory about Vox, CNN and the likes, or a moot point about Count Dankula being solely responsible for the whole idea of contacting our local MEPs, because that’s all I got from your post and it’s still pissing me off reading it now, how far off the topic it is.
edit: If we’re done, let’s leave the thread as is and see more on topic posts come.

I see alot of people got super passionate about things, but im just over here thankful that stuff was stopped this time. Ofcourse its very possible for a similar law like this to be passed or brought up in another place, so perhaps discussion about ways to maybe slow that process down might be a good idea. At the end of the day the internet as a whole is a massive planet wide resource thats just begging to be used for money and personal gains. There is also the simple fact that being a Giant wide spread resource, make it alot harder to keep specific news or details hidden from the public. When it comes to a political, legal, and buisness stand point there is alot to gain in regulating the internet in some way or shape. The use of Copy write claims and intellectual property feels like a rather basic stepping stone down the path of trying to control and FULLY regulate information again.

The battle is never over. Expect them to make another attempt at something like this. From what I heard, they currently only shelves the bill to be voted on later. Politicians and establishments push things back all the time to give us a false sense of assurance. They know the public is prone to becoming apathetic and or fatigued when given long stretches of time. It seems those who are meant to protect and benefit us are more interested in eroding our rights than anything else.

The cost of freedom is generations of eternal vigilance.

To be honest true freedom hasnt beennhad in ages, and corrupt politics have always been a problem and will always be a problem. Money can say alot and do alot in the right or wrong hands. The EU just needs to sit back and wait, probably slipping in a tactic often used by polititions here in the US.
Make big Bill
Leak large Bill
Get Large Bill cast aside [Make sure it gets alot of attention]
Cut Big Bill [or the parts you want] into pretty sounding small chunks
Enjoy the success as your large bill that got cut down is passed by slipping in phrases or little parts into other bills named after big things.
Better yet, when these special Bills are caught and stopped, use the bills YOU edited as a weapon against your enemy.

There are alot of tactics that can work and have worked before. But the best way is to make everyone fatigued with the giant FAKE bill so that no one notices the little changes later on.

But in my opinion, I think they’re gonna try and get this right, Based on the July vote, I think most of the EU must have woken up by now. A copyright reform is needed and I think they had good intentions, but the Pre-July 5 proposal was VERY questionable, So something is oddly telling me that they’re gonna fix this. But keep in mind, this is just my personal opinion.

Plus the EU🇪🇺, like many big political organizations is bound to make mistakes, but I don’t judge them based off of a couple of bad proposals like I don’t judge Congress because of SOPA 6 years ago (don’t worry that’s long dead) and the FCC because they repealed NN, I don’t agree with their decision at all, but that doesn’t make them heartless and evil.

The protests happened today, They may have been small, but the bigger army is on the internet, I have gut feeling that The Copyright Directive will either die or be heavily updated to please both sides.

According to a post on Julia Reda’s Twitter account, Voss is looking into amendments, let’s hope he does the right thing, but this is still a sign that things are progressing in a fairly positive way.
Background Pony #4F8B
UPDATE:Based on his tweet, Voss’s new proposal is better than the previous one with the mandatory upload filters removed, but platforms are still liable for infringement which is a slight issue, But things are improving
Background Pony #4F8B
It’s still shrouded in mystery, so many mixed reactions on Twitter, some saying maybe it’s better, some just confused
Background Pony #4F8B
Unlike Pai, Voss isn’t an actual douchebag, Voss just doesn’t know about the internet completely and just needs some knowledge and he really doesn’t have malicious intent, But Pai on the other hand KNOWS a lot about the internet and just spews bullshit out of his mouth quite a bit

That’s an interesting question. I think it has something to do with the fact that Springer Verlag and other big media groups have managed to keep public interest as low as possible. Older people don’t understand it and younger people are either very committed or belong to the “stupid” group that only hopes to make money with YouTube at some point. It is an unequal struggle, as a lot of educational work would be needed here, but this is not supported by the public media. Since they belong to the big media companies. Who support the copyright law in this sense. More out of greed than out of real understanding.

We still can despite the hype not being as big, one twitter user from Finland said that so far his estimates are 231 in favor and 266 reject the directive (Maybe he knows an MEP I don’t know?) So my estimates would be that everyone who voted against it will probably vote against it again, and at least 46% will approve it, so that means my guess is that 54% will reject it, but still this is a questionable situation

Well, let’s put it this way. I already have some confidence in young, committed MEPs like Julia Reda. She is a well-known and passionate activist on this subject. In addition, the petition “Savetheinternet” almost has the required 1,000,000 signatures. I think we are at 980,000 at this hour, which is not a big step for the media, but the debate is also being conducted behind closed doors. You have to decide for yourself whether that is enough for you or not. I haven’t phoned any MEP myself yet, maybe I should do that soon.

Without making too many promises, I reserve the right to believe in the democratic process in the EU. On the one hand, the bill must be revised anyway. On the other hand, the so-called “Lex Springer” has hardly any friends anyway. Just a lot of lobbyists. To tell you the truth, in the end the money will certainly help to decide, but we should not underestimate the fact that we Europeans do not want the Internet to be censored either. To put it simply.

Are there any good or at least decent proposals other than the 2 well known controversial/bad ones? (The bad proposals are from Voss and Jean-Marie)
