Fluttershy's Crush [possible NSFW]

She blinked and froze in place. “Um…” She then flashed red and looked away embarrassed as she hung her head down. She couldn’t think of any words to say. Her option to pretend she hadn’t heard anything was a clear bust.

The look on Fluttershy’s face was enough to put Dash into a panic, a noticeable bright red peering through her sky blue coat. “Nonono - it’s cool! You’re not in the wrong here!” she said in a frantic, waving her hooves in front of her. “I-I~~I should be the one who should be ashamed ~~ I was…I…”
 
Rainbow Dash let out a defeated sigh as she realized how much of a “dork” she was looking like right now. Whenever she confesses, she’s normally cool and confident with her words and her wit, barely a hiccup in her delivery. However, Fluttershy wasn’t anything like Pinkie Pie, Applejack or anyone on the Wonderbolts team when it comes to compliments and confessions. Even with the years they’ve known and grew up with each other, Dash knew that there are still some things that can fluster her…yet now she had to tell all about the conversation her and AJ had about her.
 
“We were talking about you.” she said to her, her voice obviously flustered. “We were just saying how…sweet, and cute, and gorgeous you are. A-and how you probably have a special some pony in your life that should be thanking the stars every day to have you…” Again, Dash put up her hooves in defense of her words. “Not that we wanna know, of course - that’s not important! But still, you’re just a wonderful pony, Fluttershy…”
 
Dash looked away from Fluttershy as she tapped the tip of her hooves together, showing signs that she was feeling more out-of-place then Fluttershy was. “…and that I kinda…sorta…maybe, surely, definitely would ask you out if you weren’t taken already.” A brief pause came from Dash as she gain some confidence back. “B-but for the record, AJ said she would ask you out, too!”

Fluttershy stared at her with complete confusion. She was not believing what she was hearing. The odds of just one of her friends likeing her enough to have a crush on her was ludicrous, let alone both her friends - two of her best friends who were polar opposites. Her mind was scrambled. So much had happened that morning. The more she thought about it, maybe Twilight too was trying to hit on her. Maybe her friends were just saying all these comments to make her feel better. Perhaps the whole thing was one of Rainbow’s pranks or a Twilight experiment gone wrong. She couldn’t comprehend the reality of the situation. During all these thoughts, Fluttershy stood there like a statue, looking into space. She was not prepared to have such a mouth full just an hour after waking up. She blushed deeply then looked away. Her mind wasn’t the only thing that was having trouble responding; Fluttershy’s eye lids narrowed, then her vision blured. Her eyes very slowly began to fill up with water. She felt her face go numb and her feathers fall from stress. Regardless of all this, she still stood there, not knowing how to react to everything.

“…oh jeeze…Fluttershy…” Dash was hoping this wouldn’t happen - seeing her in such away was heartbreaking enough to her. The last thing Dash wanted to do was be the one responsible for putting her in such a state. She wasn’t sure what to do next, but keep talking.
 
“Look, I’m being honest here.” she said to her softly. “Its no prank, it’s not one of Egghead’s crazy magic tricks, and it’s definitely not something I’d say just to…okay, yeah - I would say things to make you feel better, but this isn’t the case.” Against better judgement, she quietly put an assuring hoof on her shoulder and did her best to look to Fluttershy’s way. “Everything I spilled out to you was the honest truth - I mean it. Just…”
 
Dash found herself hugging the mare with her own hooves, sighing out as she leaned her forehead onto her own. “Don’t beat yourself up over it…please? I didn’t want to make your day worse…honest.”

Fluttershy was in an awkward state, but seeing Rainbow upset only made her worse. She suddenly snapped out of it and told herself to pony up and deal with it. She blinked, causing the water to pour down her red cheeks, but no more leaked out. She finally moved one hoof off the ground to wipe her eyes. After the long moment of silence, she managed to get a few feeble words out. “S…sorry about that.” She looked down at the ground for a while, then back up at the blue pony. “I don’t know why I freaked out like that.” Her ears folded back. She sat down onto the cool ground with her warm pink tail wrapped around her. “So um…you…you and Applejack, um…like me? Like…like-like, me?”

“Like like-like you, Fluttershy. It’s why I would call you ‘butterfly’ sometimes.” Rainbow Dash said with a sigh of relief, a small smile on her face at the sight of her friend cheering up. “But like I said before, you probably already got someone to be with as is. Last thing we wanna do is mess that up for you.” She lets go of her comforting hug on Fluttershy when she saw she was handling the situation a little better. She still left a hoof on her shouder to comfort her, though. “And it’s okay, Shy…after the night you had with Twilight and then hearing this from a friend? I can’t blame ya for freaking out.”

She sat in silence as she took more time to process everything. A quiet voice sounded from her. “Y-you’re…um…y-you like mare then? And AJ too?” A suprised look appeared. “I wouldn’t have guessed that myself.”

Rainbow Dash nodded to her, wearing a sheepish smile on her face as she confessed. “We just don’t make it front and center.” she added. “To be honest, we would still like you regardless of what you were - mare or stallion.” Dash had to catch herself as she realized where those words could take her. “Er, don’t let Egghead know that, though.”

Fluttershy smiled at her. “Um, thanks I guess.” She went red again. “That’s very flattering. Don’t worry. I won’t tell anypony.” She stretched out one wing and gave Rainbow a gently hug with it.

Dash couldn’t help herself from blushing as Fluttershy hugged her back, the pegasai feeling comfort within the yellow pony’s reach. “I’m just kidding…I won’t mind you telling anypony.” She said as she nuzzled Fluttershy close. “And you’re welcome…”
 
It was then that Applejack called out to the two of them from the living room, already finished off her 1st serving of tea for herself. “You two gals need some help in there? Ya lost?” she said to them jokingly.
 
Dash rolled her eyes as she called back to her, nearly forgetting about AJ in those few minutes she was talking with Fluttershy. “Patience, Jackie - this tea brewing isn’t like making fruit punch!” she replied. She turned back to Fluttershy afterwards, chuckling a little. “Hey, how about I help you with the rest of the tea set? Since I’m here and all, might as well give you a helping hoof…or wing, in this case.”

“Fine…” Twilight said in a low voice and passed between Pinkie and Rarity. “In fact, this is a stupid and long story. I was not myself when I went to Fluttershy’s house last night.” She stopped in the middle of the library, thinking for a moment. Next to her were armchairs in which anypony could sit comfortably and read a book. On the coffee table stood a bowl with half-eaten crystals.
 
“Spike, will you make us tea? I’ll have to postpone the sorting of books and open my friends to my little secret.” She turned to the pony. Her face was completely sad and even the broad smile of a pink pony did not lift her mood. She gestured to invite everyone to sit down.
 
“It all started when I began to suspect that Fluttershy had a special pony…”

Rarity took a seat, striking a face of intrigued. “Fluttershy?” She glanced over at Pinkie Pie, than back at the Twilight. “You think her, of all ponies, may have found somepony? What made you come to that conclusion in the first place darling?”
 

 
“Oh, well okay then. If you like to.” She smiled at her. “Well…I’ve already made the second cup here. Unless you’d like to make AJ another serving.” She was too noble to even think about having some tea herself. She only wanted what made her friends happy. She thought about her friends feelings to her that gave her butterflies. But she was also a little saddened by it, which shown in her body language. “I can’t believe you actually like me the way you do. I…wish I knew much sooner…”

“This is quite obvious if we use deduction methods, Rarity. I quite incidentally noticed how she took the book on the customs of courtship in the pony society.” Twilight began to tell with sparkles in her eyes. “Nothing special, but soon I began to notice the strangeness in the behavior of Fluttershy. She completely without a reason began to use makeup to look prettier. She…” The unicorn stopped, realizing that she had spied too long for her friend for no good reason. Twilight shyly pressed her ears and looked away. She’s a bad friend.
 
“But there were other suspicions, so I decided…” Twilight quickly missed some of the thought. The monologue resembled a minefield. If she had time to prepare. Make a cards, for example.

“Would you have found out any sooner if I didn’t say anything?” Rainbow Dash asked her with a friendly nudge and a smile. “Besides, we still got a good life ahead of us - just because you can’t take this road of life now, doesn’t mean it won’t come again later.” She gives her a smile and a wink as she takes hold of the teapot with her left wing, balancing it onto the serving dish she was holding up with her right hoof. With the way she was posed with the tea pot, a fitting bowtie and vest would have made her look like quite the servant. “So don’t let it get you down, Shy…we can always give it a shot when you’re ready.”
 
Dash bowed her head towards Fluttershy after she was certain she could hold up the tea pot with ease in her own hooves. “After you, my butterfly%”
 

 
Spike seemed to be just as skilled with waiting and serving as Dash was, for by the time Twilight was done explaining herself to Rarity and Pinkie Pie about Fluttershy, he was already returning with a full set on him. The tea pot, steaming from the spout, was balanced on the top of his head, while he had a serving tray in each hand with two cups on each tray. Lastly, his tail was holding up another tray of assorted treats to enjoy with their serving of tea. “I would’ve use the cart to bring all this up.” he said as he approach the group of mares. “But then the tea wouldn’t stay as hot for so long. Hope you girls enjoy%” He then gave a sheepish smile to Twilight as he settled the tea and trays onto the nearby table. “And I tried, but you know Rarity - she’s quite persistent.”

Rarity tried to follow along what exactly Twilight was up to. Even someone as curious as her though it was quite outlandish what Twilight was getting at. Whatever it was, it must have been very important to her. A sweet smell of tea brewing, steaming swiftly in the air and brushing past her muzzle. She glanced around at Spike. “Oh, that smells lovely. Let me help you with that darling.” Her horn illuminated, casting a telekinesis spell upon one cup, lifting it to her. She placed it down then proceeded to gathering the warm pot. “Thank you Spikiewikie. Oh dear, that pot with be boiling on you…although, I suppose you are a dragon after all.”
 

 
Fluttershy giggled shyly, having a much happier face on display. “Heh. I would’ve lov- ugh…hang on.” She tilted her head in curiosity. “Um…I never stated or not if I…um, s-swung that way…o-or not.” Her cheeks lit up a little.

Twilight with a smile helped set the rest of the cups. Over the years of her life with a fire-resistant dragon, she has become accustomed to seeing how he can touch hot things without harm to himself. Other ponies reacted differently.
 
She did not touch her cup and carefully monitored the reaction of friends. Rarity seemed distracted and did not listen to her.
 
“In the end, I wanted to see the special pony Fluttershy in person and I went to her house without an invitation.”

Rarity glanced over at Twilight. “You went uninvited? So, hang on sweetie. You knew that Fluttershy might have been having a date over, so you went to her house to spy? That sounds a little rude, don’t you think?”

“If I wanted to spy on Fluttershy I would climb into the nearest tree and take a telescope with me!” Twilight looked at Spike, asking for help again. “And I did not know that she had a date… Now I understand why she had glasses of wine on the table.” She blushed deeply. Perhaps she ruined Fluttershy’s private life. There is no forgiveness for her. What Twilight could make a friendship lesson? Do not stick your nose into other pony’s business?

Rarity thought about what she meant about the glasses of wine, but didn’t want to be as intruding as Twilight. “Twilight. I think you should leave the poor mare alone. How would you like it if somepony kept on snooping around in your business?”

“You sound like Spike. He also agreed that I should leave the mare alone. I do not know … Would I feel uncomfortable?”

Spike couldn’t give an answer to Twilight this time around, as Rarity had came to the same answer about the situation. “Yeah, sorry Twi - I can’t bail you out on this round.” he said to her, sipping on his share of tea. “I mean it’s okay to be curious about someone’s date, but this is Fluttershy we’re talking about here - that kind of stuff you have to build her up to talk about.”
 
Pinkie Pie giggled at the thought of Fluttershy even going on a date with anyone, let alone going on a date in general. The thought of her even indulging in wine was even out of place for her. “I didn’t know Shy-Shy was growing up%!” she said. “I bet her date is a cutie like she is.” The baker suddenly perked up, sitting upright in her chair and getting the most curious smile on her face. “Hey! Remember when you wanted to date Rarity, Spike!?”
 
Spike blinked in surprise as his cheeks turned a burning red. “P-P-Pinkie, chill!” he sputtered, nearly spitting out his tea. “Let’s focus on the topic here! Geeze…”
 
“Hehe, sorry Spikey%”  

 
Rainbow Dash fell silent for a moment as she looked at Fluttershy, a pursed line in her lips as that topic never did come up. “Oooohhh yeaaahh…” She was only a tad bit embarrassed about being so forward, but it wasn’t anythng she couldn’t shake off. She waved a hoof at the thought and managed to give Fluttershy a smile. “We’ll just cross that road when we get there.” she said. “Which way you swing isn’t important as going to bat for your friends. And you are one of my best friends, Fluttershy.”
 
The back of her mind echoed that exact same thought as she was thinking about the note she was carrying. “Put it back, Dash. We can talk about it with Twilight later…”

Fluttershy felt a little strange hearing about the possibility of dating her best friend while already being in a relationship. It was made that much harder for her as she had a long secret uncertain interest for Dash growing up, ever since she was in flight school with her. Such a tale right now would only add fuel to the delicate fire, so she kept quiet.

Dash didn’t read into Fluttershy’s silence to know that everything she told her about herself was still a lot to think on. It may not have been much of a weight in Dash’s mind, but she can only imagine the conflict going on in Fluttershy’s. If the pegasus was more honest, she would be just as flustered if Fluttershy was willing to go out with her…but as she said before, that is a road neither has to cross yet.
 
“C’mon - AJ’s waiting on us.” She gave her pegasus friend a friendly nudge with her foreleg before leading her out the kitchen door. “Don’t wanna keep a guest waiting, right?”
 
The moment she was out of Fluttershy’s sight, Dash finally took out Twilight’s note from under her right wing and tossed it away into the bin. The paper was still in the same condition as when she took it out, thanks to the softness of her own feathers providing the cushion, allowing it to drift into the bin on its own. It wasn’t exactly in the same place she put it, but it was close enough not to give a 2nd glance.
 
“About time ya came around, RD.” Applejack said, balancing the teacup on her nose out of boredom. “For a gal as fast as lightning you sure move slower than molasses when ya talk.”
 
“Well some things ya gotta take slow to get the best results.” Dash said with a shrug as she presented the pot of tea in wing. “Now you want one lump or two?”
 
AJ hesitated for a moment as she settle the cup down onto the table, looking up to Dash with a curl in her lip. “How about three?” she asked.
 
“You got it!”
 
The two mares both flicked each others’ noses three times with their hooves before laughing.

Fluttershy did a little startled bob of her head as Rainbow nudged her. She watched as she left her alone in the kitchen. She stood around still having so much go around in her head. Before leaving to reunite with her friends, she walked over to one of her cupboard doors, pulling it open with her mouth then stuck her head inside. She retrieved a small bag of cookies Pinkie had given her. She flicked the door closed with her tail and headed back into the living room.
 
She looked at her friends in a puzzled look as they flicked each other. She steady strolled towards them, giving in small grin as best as she could with the bag in between her teeth. Her peering eyes still looked acutely sore underneath, where she had been tearing up from earlier. In addition, her mane wasn’t its smooth fluffy self.

AJ turned her attention to Fluttershy as she was chuckling from the little joke between the two. “Don’t mind us, Flutters. Just giving each other some…sugar lumps?” Applejack was able to notice the stressed state Fluttershy as in the moment she laid eyes upon her. Her eyes shifted over to Dash, who quietly shook her head to the farmer. The pegasus knew already what was happening and was giving AJ the signal to not pursue it. At the least not directly. A subtle nod came from Applejack before she rested her chin onto her hooves, giving Fluttershy a smile in return.
 
“Heavy thoughts, sug?” she asked the gentle pegasus. “You look like you should be getting the guest treatment instead of us. Why not us sit down and let us treat you, instead?”
