Fun fact about the FCC: most of the regulations they enforce as law weren’t even passed by Congress nor has gone through a vote from the general public. In fact, according to George Carlin, the FCC (an appointed body, not elected, answerable only to the President) has decided all by themselves that radio and television were two aspects of American life
not protected by the Free Speech provisions of the First Amendment to the Constitution…all because a Reverend Donald Wildmon of Mississippi sent them a letter over hearing something on the radio he didn’t like. Apparently, nobody told the Reverend that there are two knobs on the radio (at least in those days); one knob turns the radio on and off and the other
(Smack!) CHANGES THE STATION! It’s called freedom of choice, and is one of the principles this country was founded upon.
