Okay, I don’t really know if I belong here on this thread, since I’m more in the camp of simply not finding him funny, but reading about some of the shit he’s done makes me legitimately hate him. So let me tell a short story.
On January 31, 2014, I had been watching the Honest Trailers series for a while, and
uploaded my own one about Equestria Girls. It garnered over 20,000 views, yes, and so I figured I was going to make another video like that for
Rainbow Rocks.
However, on January 8, 2015,
Jerry Peet uploaded his own honest trailer for Rainbow Rocks, which has gained over four times my own video’s views. Now I didn’t think he was funny but did agree with some of what he said, e.g. I liked his Best/Worst MLP songs list. So I watched it.
It was then when I noticed that the very first joke he made in it was a near line-for-line ripoff of my own video. So in the comments section, I simply asked him if he would credit me for the joke. He never did, and he had my comment removed.
Now I was angered, as you all can understand, and rightly so. So I made a blog post on deviantART, Tumblr and FIMFiction that explained the situation and called for people to boycott him. (You can read the post
here) A few people responded, but I wasn’t really getting momentum.
A few days later, I noticed that I started getting flamed by a bunch of Peet’s fans, and other people defending him, who expected me to kiss his ass like they were doing. So I went to his video post and saw that he had featured a comment there that linked to my post on deviantART. In response, he said the following:
“Yeah, I saw that. Let's not pay it any attention because like a small child putting a cat in the tumble dryer, that's exactly what it wants.”
I asked him in the comments to take the post down. He removed that comment, too. Fans continued coming after me, the post even attracted other people who hated me for my review series I did at the time, and they attacked me, until finally I took down the post.
The only lesson I’ve learned from this is, if someone blatantly and shamelessly rips off your joke, let them do so and don’t stick up for yourself. Thanks, Jerry! (sarcastic thumbs up)
