This was made in mind to be episodes of focus on the relationships. We’ve had scenes in PYHD between Rarity and Pinkie as well as the cute end scene in Over a Barrel, but it didn’t focus on their dynamic or give us that definitive character interaction. PYHD was a Fluttershy episode through and through.
This is why Read It and Weep wasn’t included for RD and Twilight because it was a RD episode and Filli Vanilli because it was a Fluttershy episode.
The Cutie Map had good character relationships with Pinkie and the rest of the Mane 7 (excluding Spike because he didn’t venture off with them), but it similarly wasn’t included by the episode did not focus on these relationships.
An episode that concentrates on a relationship can solidify it and build character interaction that can support other stories the writers may wish to use. The diagram merely presents relationships that have not yet been explored in depth as the focal point of a single episode.
Thanks for discussion on the image. Hopefully this shows us the potential that MLP still has and questions we can ask writers about how they would tackle a story concentrating on the dynamics between two characters that have not appeared together in a single episode about them yet.
Fluttershy/Spike is obvious, cutie map dragon lands episode.
Or maybe an adorable episode where Spike moves in with Fluttershy because of [insert Dragon Code style whatevers here] and lives there for an episode before moving back because “the grass is greener”.
While that IS the first episode that they have any real significant interaction at all, it’s mostly to setup what is basically a purely Dash focused story.
@Kamazeustra
Excellent point. Loud stuff and all would be like chimichangas for Twi. And in “Griffon the Brush Off” she refused to prank Fluttershy, showing better sense than Rainbow.
@Krek
Everyone has their off days… Thank you for giving me some headcanon to patch up the writer’s off days with :p
@Krek
She also has the basement full of her notes on how to throw a party configured to anyone in town’s preferences. A party for Fluttershy would be designed to be comfortable for Fluttershy. Probably a small affair.
@Kamazeustra
Sure, but I think everyone can have their off days. Pinkie Pie’s no exception.
In Filli Vanilli, she went into great deal of the kind of stage fright Flttershy would feel by performing, and didn’t even realize she was causing her great distress by doing so.
I could also maybe imagine Pinkie Pie thinking she’s helping FLuttershy by throwing her a big party to get her out of her timid shell.
@Background Pony Number 17
Again, I can imagine a situation where Fluttershy wants to have a quiet evening with her pony and animals friends, but Pinkie Pie, being the party-animal and a master party planner, probably has her own idea on how to throw the party.
I sometimes get the feeling that she thinks she knows what’s best for others, and that her definition of fun is everyone’s definition of fun.
Putting your Hoof Down is a Primarily Fluttershy story, yes there’s Pinkie and Rarity together in it, but they don’t really interact much outside of the issues with Fluttershy.
I’ve often wondered if Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy really like each other. Of all the Mane Six pairings, their personalities are the two most clashing. Pinkie Pie’s exuberance must constantly get on Fluttershy’s nerves, and Fluttershy’s withdrawn nature must be just as frustrating and aggravating to Pinkie Pie. But unlike say, Rarity and Applejack, neither Fluttershy nor Pinkie Pie are really good at communicating their feelings. I really have a hard time imagining the two getting along for more than a few minutes before one of them gets totally fed up with the other.
Could we say “Filli Vanilli” a Pinkie Pie/Fluttershy interaction episode, since that involes Pinkie putting unnecessary stress on Fluttershy?
One future episode involving the two interacting as the main plot could be that Fluttershy’s birthday’s coming soon, and she just wants a quiet evening with her pony and animal friends. Pinkie Pie, on the other hand (or hoof), wants to throw the biggest, extravagant party for her, because of her own love of parties, and would be confused why Fluttershy wouldn’t want something big.
@Itsthinking
Oooh, when Flutters let Pinkie relax in her butterfly grove in “Too Many Pinkie Pies” - there’s another cute Pinkieshy interaction. That and her inviting the mirror clone to her picnic later.
Enough proof that the original dub was (and still is) of low budget to begin with, and the writers should have thought of trio relationships within the core cast in some episodes.
Exceptions are what makes it so you need a key. If one of them is off, then all of them could be.

It also prompted good discussion about how these relationships could be explored, such as this: https://derpiboo.ru/1001411?scope=scpe932c4a94d66310d972148a089c6bf19cc063aa8e

Not that the kids will notice.
Too much like SaYS.

What kind of conflict could arise in a Fluttersy/Pinkie Pie episode, then?
While that IS the first episode that they have any real significant interaction at all, it’s mostly to setup what is basically a purely Dash focused story.

In Too Many Pinkies it was made pretty clear that she’s perfectly capable of toning it down and being considerate.
I’m pretty sure the boxes are body colors, with the exception of green for Spike.

Pretty much this, thanks for voicing what I was thinking.

Pinkie is barely in Filli Vanilli, she has like 2 minutes total screen time. So can’t really count that.
If anything the main dynamic in that episode is Fluttershy and Rarity.

It’s funny to see those two interact, though.
