My reaction to the ending in a nutshell. This episode was handled really well.

Not that I didn’t cry to “The Pony That I Want to Be” too, because I totally did. I’m an emotional wuss.

Perhaps, but regardless this was the closest thing to a “Diamond Tiara” episode, and I’m glad it shows there’s more to her then “lol blank-flanks.” After her li’l “humiliation conga,” seems to imply she’s been feeling this way (questioning herself & her actions) for quite awhile now.

A lot of fans felt Tiara never truly got what she deserved for “Flight to the Finish,” but taking “Raiders of the Lost Cutie-mark” into account, it’s likely that her snobby mother wasn’t pleased at her losing to mere “blank-flanks.” It’s likely she got lectured or even punished for it. It’s likely all those times she “lost” to the CMC, or lost her job on the school newspaper and such this happened.
So one could assume all of this was leading up, and building up to her questioning herself, and realizing her mean actions are getting her nowhere. (Which eventually leads up to losing all the school’s respect/fear, as well as her best friend, which all finally crushed her.) So her heel-face-turn didn’t feel to out of the blue to me. I felt it kinda made more sense then Sunset Shimmer’s frankly.

Honestly, before CotLM, DT has been nothing but an unrepentant jerk. After getting five seasons of her being a one-note character, I personally would have liked to see more development for her before I could fully accept her heel-face turn.

Hell, there is definitely potential for a good DT-centered episode, since we see that she has an overbearing mother, who has been enabling her jerkass behavior all along. Especially considering the stark contrast to her father, who doesn’t seem to approve of DT’s actions and has actually punished her for it. They don’t have to go too in-depth with it, but I still believe DT should have gotten more development over the course of more than a single episode.

I don’t know, unlike MMC, (which I felt needed more build-up/foreshadowing) I’m kinda glad the whole school election, Tiara’s personal struggles, CMC reforming Tiara, finding out their “true talent,” and such wasn’t dragged out that long. All that doesn’t need to be dragged out for 3 22-minute long episodes. (Though, I wouldn’t mind them developing Tiara’s “heel-face-turn” more in future eps.)
It would’ve gotten old, (especially the election part, we don’t need a whole episode dedicated to that) and it would take up to much room in the season’s 26-episode schedule.

And no, I don’t agree about the Scootaloo thing either. Besides, the Season 4 CMC episodes weren’t really focused on them trying to get their cutie-marks, I noticed. So it would’ve felt to out of the blue.

I got feels, yes, but I didn’t cry. As much as I enjoyed the episode, it did feel like ‘Magical Mystery Cure’ all over again. I would have preferred if they had saved this for season six, but unlike MMC, which should have been a two-parter, the events of this episode should have spread it out over the course of the season as a subplot.

  1. First episode would be about the CMCs trying to help Pip win the election against DT, ending with her falling out with SS.

  2. Next episode would be a look into DT’s home life, and her reluctantly befriending the CMCs.

  3. The third and final installment should have been about the decisive moment for DT and the CMCs getting their cutie marks.

Oh well, it is what it is. I’m looking forward to seeing the direction they take this in, but I think we can all agree on one thing…

SCOOTALOO SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN HER CUTIE MARK IN ‘FLIGHT TO THE FINISH!’

Pretty soft for a Sony.
I did enjoy this episode, it gave me feels, but even more so the second time I watched it and knew what was coming.
