Spoiled Rich: Don’t you dare mess this up Diamond Tiara!

Filthy Rich: Diamond, you told me you made me a mac and cheese and you still haven’t made it!

Life is hard when husbands and wives, even when they break up.  
I feel sad that they feel this angry, but Ponyland would’ve been happy if Filthy Rich and Spoiled Rich could just been at least nice to each other. Not all ponies of male and female can get married. Everything may turn better in the future for these two. I do get the point that Diamond Tiara don’t have friends except Silver Spoon, but it would’ve been nice if everypony in the series would have been friends.

When will they ever get along?

Could be that both are very success-driven ponies and both push DT towards success at any cost, but have different methods.
 
Filthy Rich leads by example and silent disapproval, but it leads him to being caught up in work a lot so every moment with their child is precious. Spoiled Rich pushes their daughter directly and is very vocal whenever she disappoints her. She also appears to be working to support Rich, so maybe she doesn’t have much time either and defaults to “mean” parent.

My headcanon is that Filthy can smell his wife’s nasty perfume and knows that she’s in close proximity; a reason as good as any to frown.

Oh dear. Were I there, I’d tell them to get counseling.

That’s a fair point actually.

You know considering that DT told Spoiled Rich that she had no friends it’s likely that they are divorced. I mean you would think that DT would consider her dad her mom’s friend at least.

Calling it now: There’s gonna be a CMC episode featuring DT in Season 6 that teaches little kids how to cope with divorce!

I assumed this is how DT views her parents – that they both think she’s a failure – when that’s only half true.
 
So on one hand you have her mom, who flips out at her over minor transgressions, puts undue pressure on her, basically emotionally tyrannizes her. You don’t get the impression that she cares about her mom very much, but she’s afraid? of her to the extent where she can’t just ignore her garbage.
 
Meanwhile Filthy Rich calls her out on being a jerk/not appreciating work, but he’s being totally reasonable about it. Except DT’s probably so screwed up from her mom that she takes this to mean that her dad thinks she’s a failure too.
 
I also wonder if Filthy even knows what his wife is doing :(

Headcanon: Spoiled Rich is clearly a hateful shrew, and to cope, Filthy Rich has become emotionally withdrawn and is focusing all his attention on his business. Unfortunately, he may not even be aware of just how abusive his wife is toward their daughter. When he does have time for Diamond Tiara, he clearly dotes on her, and is probably the one ray of sunshine in her otherwise miserable home life. He’s not a bad father, but not a very good one.

I think he is good, still, and maybe that’s why they left him out of this episode for the most part.
 
In her appearances with him so far, Diamond Tiara seems to adore, or at the very least admire her father. In the interaction we saw with them in Family Appreciation day, he was firm with her, but kind, and she shows no negative emotions towards him throughout the series. From the moment she saw her mother in this episode, her facial expressions conveyed resentment and dread. There was tension between them the whole episode…even at the end. They didn’t actually reconcile, Spoiled just gave in.
 
I know comics are not canon, but even the comics kind of suggest Filthy is a doting parent.
 
I think he wants her to succeed, and he may put a little bit of pressure on DT as well, but not in the same way her mother does. I don’t think he’s outright abusive about it, and like I read somewhere else today, I think she pressure she feels from him is more that she doesn’t want to disappoint him. I mean, she probably feels like if she disappoints Filthy, then neither one of her parents will love her. What a nightmare.

I like to think he’s not such a bad guy. But this scene did give me the impression that he might be a “different behind closed doors” kind of father to Diamond. Not sure, but…..

That possible.

In my opinion, he is one of the good guys. I think that expression is more of him just wondering why his daughter is essentially being chased through town by three ponies he knows she doesn’t get along with.
 
Spoiled Rich probably just told him to let her handle it and leave it at that.
