Actually, their manes are just similar in coloration; there bodies are likewise sorta similar in color. So it’s a fanon with (until this one shot) no basis in canon and arguably the flimsiest of reasons possible.
I still love most of the fanart that it produced, though.
Actually, this is the first time they’ve been together in the BG in the entire series.
