You guys do know there is a Kansas City Missouri where KC teams play and it is connected to KC Kansas. Now if they played in Missouri and were called just Kansas then you have a valid criticism. This isn’t the same as the Jets playing in east Rutherford New Jersey where they don’t play in the city of state they are named for

yes it could mean that, if someone was ignorant of the the difference between Washington D.C. (e.g. Washington), and the little known state of Washington where Boeing, and MicroSoft are located. The joke works for teams like KC, The Jets, and the Mets since they don’t play in their respective locations. But… And here’s the rub. Near enough to not make much odds of.

And on that note The Wizzards … formally the Bullets, aren’t even in Washington D.C. IIRC they play up in Landover Maryland. Well that’s how I remembered it growing up anyway.  
It seems that the Cap Center has been wiped off the face of the Earth now, and the new Arena really IS in Washington D.C. now. (Verizon Center), So Trixie fails the test.

Kansas City is a border town and the downtown area just happens to be on the Missouri side with both Kaufman and Arrowhead stadium at the Southeastern tip of the city.
