ah, ok.
Yeah, what the hell Bon Bon? Who pissed in your cereal that day?
I’m agreeing with you, I never said it was decent, just trying to explain the thought process.
The scenario with the kid sounds more like the element of fear. At which point you might as well cast Sombra in the role.
Wait, are you agreeing with me or not? Your other comment says that it is a decent school of thought, but the other says that you agree with me that it isn’t a good school of thought.
Exactly.
eh, I don’t think so.
A school of thought that tough love will always be as valid and fulfilling and calming as regular love?
nope. Besides, that scenario would probably make the other wonder why she would be the element of kindness if she does that to a injured kid.
You never had a harsh/stern parent, grandparent, aunt? (One that wasn’t good with kids, but had your interest at heart, and made you do things you may not have liked but which helped you on the long run?)
seems more like the element of douchbagery then.
I think she is, though….The “tough love” type.
Like, suppose they come across an injured filly…And she’s the one to step forward, and tell them to stop gawking and do what needs to be done. And lectures them and orders them around, and then shouts at the filly to stop crying, but she damn well gets the job done.
“Derpy, where are you going now? This is our big stand! We can’t give up now!”
The depressed-looking mare slowed down; she did not turn around but only stared at her mud-covered hoof.
“What good am I?” she whispered and a fat tear rolled down her cheek. “I thought that maybe if I showed I could do something for those other ponies back there…I was hoping I could prove that I could be the Element of Kindness. But I even messed that up…I can’t do even just a small favor properly…I’ll always only be that one pony who can’t do anything right.”
Lyra bounced around in front of her friend flinging her hooves about in an attempt to communicate.
“But Derpy, we saw how hard you were trying. Everypony did! THey did not care that you messed up, they were just happy that we cared about them. You are the hardest working pony that I know, and I MEAN that.
And…look….when we look at how much you try, it makes US try harder too. And when you fail, and then you stand up…
You make us feel that maybe the harsh rules that limit all of us can be suspended just this one time. That we all can find happiness no matter who we are.
You give us hope, and you make us feel better about the ponies we are…As befits the bearer of the Element of Laughter.”
A teary but hopeful face looked up.
“I…do?”
Two other silouettes joined us as they trotted out of the darkness.
“About time you snapped out of it.” Said the cheeky voice that belonged to The Great DJ PON-3.
The other pony, whom they called Octavia, grimaced. “Yeah, yeah, great job…But what good is it? We are still one pony short.”
“Um” said a male voice up real close, making Derpy gasp.
A brown coated stallion with a hourglass cutie mark trotted forward.
“Doctor! You have returned!”
“Er, yeah, about that…I was wrong. I’m sorry. I always thought that I had to do things alone, and I had to focus on my mission…And if I did that I could protect the others I left behind. But I realized as soon as I left that I was wrong to think I was better off if I gave up on…my friends.”
He looked at Derpy, who now looked like she was about to pounce-hug him. “But Derpy, I promise…no matter where I would’ve gone, no matter how long I am gone, I’ll always return for you.”
Lyra jumped in excitement and joy, and swung around towards the sixth pony catching up to them just now who was reluctantly following them around.
“Bonnie! You too! We NEED your element too!”
“What? I have no element! I have nothing to do with all of this.” She shuddered, and eyed the storm suspiciously.
“Of course you do! Don’t you remember?” And when this did not seem to have an effect, she added, hastily: “Remember what Zecora said?
Like, how being brave wasn’t the same as being fearless…that the really brave ponies weren’t the ones who could feel no fear, but the ones who could conquer it…
Your element can be that one thing you really, really don’t want to, but you do it anyway!
I need you to do it now, Bon-Bon! I need you to be that Bon-Bon again!”
Bon-Bon puffed up her cheeks and and made a frowny face, before turning her head and gave her an angry glare.
“Don’t you think that I owe you anything.” she muttered. “I don’t think anypony in this town can claim I owe any of them anything.”
She looked at their annoying stupid hopeful faces, all five holding their breaths. Oh Luna damn it.
“Fine! Of course I’ll I’ll put up with all of your annoying habits, I’ll feed you, clothe you…” She grit her teeth. “But don’t think I do it because I like it! That stupid princess hasn’t won! I still hate every one of you!”
Lyra laughed.“That’s the spirit!”
She fished something of her pouch and held it between her two hooves.
“And that only leaves…”
I wandered across all of Equestria, she thought, I have met all kinds of peoples; pursuing my one obsession has taken me to the end of the land and back. And everyone everywhere always laughed and pat me on my back and said things like, “Oh that Lyra has such crazy stories!” Or “C’mon, give us another one!” And I always thought tat maybe they were just making fun of me, and I was afraid that in the end, I was only a failed musician and researcher…but now…Now I know what all of it was for. Now I realize what my real power was all along.
Donning the crown that represented the Element of Friendship, she shouted:
“ELEMENTS…UNITE!”
