Sunset’s motivation were stupid and generic. At least Starlight’s motivation were original (compared to Sunsets) and why beig so butthurt over Starlight? Sunset is the protagonist of a whole freaking series.

And Sunset will left her friends in the human world, for no specific reason because the human world is her home now. I don’t want to be rude but the idea of Sunset going back to Equestria is so fucked up, making the EQG series left without his prominent character. She could visit, but staying at Equestria? You never watched the EQG series.

Sunset…This is starting to get creepy. You need help, girl.

I think it would have been a great plot bringing Sunset back to her home world, seeing how everything changed and meeting Princess Celestia again, lots could of been done with that. But Starlight will most likely grow on me and I’ll like her and stuff.
 
It just feels like Sunset would have been better…

We are missing on her reunion with Celestia, and adventures with the pony counterparts of her bffs.

clap clap clap ya know, i thought i was alone in this. there was A LOT wrong with this episode. This season’s villain was interesting. Basically she had an interesting belief. but she was a hypocrite and wanted to create something that she wouldn’t agree too (everypony equal, but won’t give up cutie mark).
 
also, let’s look at this: she had that one cameo with moondancer (possibly) and appeared at the speech twilight gave. in that 22 episode span (from beginning of her debut to final appearance) she did not find out anything about TWilight, her friends, the elements, and their connection to taking down villains! she also, did not bother to go back to the present, to see the result of her plan! idk if most villain in this serie go without finding info on their targets or what!
 
But i think worst of all, is her reason for being evil. she originally formed a home, where everypony was equal. no cutie mark was different. and no one was more superior than the other (except for her. AND WHAT EXACTLY IS HER TALENT??). we go back in time and see her friend left because everyone praised his cutie mark, and blames them. like you said, major leap of logic, not even superman could jump. But here’s some logic, i don’t believe one punch man could punch through! SHE HAD NO CUTIE MARK WHEN SHE LEFT! SHE WAS A BLANK FLANK! The whole idea is that one pony’s cutie mark is better than another’s! thus the conflict! But she never got hers! if she did, and someone else got theirs but their’s was better, sure conflict! but no conflict or problem could be formed, between a blank flank and one with a cutie mark!!! of course superiority!! THE TWO ARE ON TWO OPPOSITE LEVELS OF COMPARISON!!! level 1: NO TALENT DISCOVERED YET, and level 2: TALENT DISCOVERED! SHE’S FIGHTING “my talent is better than yours!”.
 
Her reasons are terrible, she has power that is not explained to be able to challenge an alicorn (just remembered, how could a unicorn encase an alicorn in crystal to begin with and still be able to float with her magic, that would tire any unicorn in a heartbeat) and just…  
why Starswirl? she altered, the spell. where, did she, get it? how did she alter it?
 
she’s probably my least favorite villain now. before it was between chrysalis and starlight. now chrysalis is 2nd. Starlight wins the worst villain award (would’ve talked about how forgiven so fast, but you did a much better job of that. love that passage)
 
this season, i think the writers really ran out of idea

In another timeline, this would have been the outcome of the Season 5 finale.  
Sunset would have returned to stop Glimmer, and earned her place alongside Twilight and her friends.

Sunset Shimmer’s motivations (greed, pride) were both much more realistic (and sympathetic, to me) and easily understood and when her plan was stopped, she actually understood the weight of her actions and had to atone for them properly. Not to mention, as a former student of Celestia (and basically Twilight with some traits inverted) she could’ve easily been in Twilight’s place, which makes her a for-want-of-a-nail foil, which I find interesting. Plus, her color scheme’s neat.
 
Compare Starlight Glimmer: At WORST she got ditched once in her life and her answer to that was CUTIE MARKS ARE EVIL AND RUIN FRIENDSHIPS (a leap of logic so vast Superman couldn’t jump it and he can fucking fly), so she became an Orwellian brainwashing cult leader and a hypocrite at that to deal with the fact that she was inadequate at some level of her own mind. Nowhere do we get any hint that she tried anything resembling reasonable action like say, sending a letter, or sacking up and making a new friend (it’s like freaking Moondancer again, and that was irritating the first time).
 
Then when her bullshit is rightfully stopped, her vengeance for being denied her village of virtual zombies is to utterly damn the nation in a variety of different ways, and then when her nose is rubbed in it (Fallout Equestria was canon, if briefly) she refuses to accept the world HER spell showed her and that she could possibly be wrong. She’s ready to duel Twilight for the rest of eternity for the sake of her petty revenge for having her toys taken from her.
 
This is utter insanity, or utter evil. Not sure which is worse; either way she wasn’t even given a slap on the proverbial wrist. No, she was REWARDED for her villainy and didn’t have to earn shit.
 
This is without taking into account the incredible stretch that this random comes-from-nowhere unicorn with no stated formal teacher can match an ALICORN PRINCESS WHO’S TALENT IS MAGIC THAT WAS TRAINED BY PRINCESS CELESTIA PERSONALLY. But nah, some unicorn from no place anyone’s heard of can trade blows with her.
 
Either Starlight’s power is vastly amplified through the lens of madness or naming your kid [celestial phenomenon] [glitter synonym] is a surefire way to make them unbelievably powerful.

I’m one of those fans….

It’s interesting. Sunset has really grown on me, and I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing her in the show.
 
It’s also interesting to note that there are probably a not-insignificant amount of fans who got into the fandom because of the Equestria Girls movie, and then got into FIM after first getting into EqG.

Octavia’s tiny mouth is adorable.  
(You probably noticed that they are intentionally drawing it smaller than for the rest of the ponies.)

Starlight Glimmer pretty much is an Ersatz Shimmer.

Better.

I may be Atheist, but there are things in this world that I still find sanctity in. One of those things is “Individuality.” I feel that a person’s mind, what they like, what they believe, what they want for themselves and others, are as important to them as a christian’s belief in a higher power. From my perspective and from my beliefs, what Starlight did in the season opener was take that “Individuality” away. To me, her actions were the equivilent of someone burning down a place of worship because they hate that particular religion, and then brainwash everyone who went there.
 
The religion Starlight attacked just so happened to be mine. That’s why I hated her so much, and why I think she doesn’t deserve to be placed on the same level or higher than Sunset. She has a long way to go before I can even concider giving her forgiveness.
