So, I know this is a bit old, and you make some good points, but I would have to say there are some definite issues you overlooked. Las Pegasus is connected, yes, but it looks like there’s a chokepoint on that same road. Probably a lot of skirmishing taking place between defending and invading forces, meaning that whatever supply line is present probably stops there. Vanhoover and Tall Tale are completely cut off and probably captured as a result, and Baltimare is dangerously close to the southern front, meaning that any resources produced there are probably also used there. Plus, if Ponyville’s half-abandoned state is any indication, most of the population not involved in supply production is either off fighting or otherwise sequestered. Equestria has five major cities still free, but Canterlot is likely mostly refugees under heavy guard on account of being the capital, Sombra’s crystal line is edging dangerously close to two more cities, and I rather doubt that Griffonstone is in any position, let alone willing, to provide aid. Sombra also likely cares little for his own troops beyond how effectively they can manage a zerg rush, given that his soldiers are both under mind control and apparently sent into battle more or less unarmed.
Combine all of this and I’d say Sombra is probably the one in the lead here.
God I need a life.
I, too struggle with Cranberries… As you can probably tell.
I take pride in my knowledge of strategic possibilities in war. If only that can coincide with my vocabulary so I use the right (Cranberries) for the intended purpose. Wait…
Like Zebasiz said. Very thorough look. Thanks!
Nice examination. =)
I actually looked on the most recent map Compared to this one and I have to say Sombra’s forces have virtually no useful ground. Most if not all the major cities are still under Celestia’s control, as well as several key food and recorce production hum All Sombra has is the equivalent of controlling all of Russia save the farms and cities. He controls nearly all the mountain ranges, several key rail lanes and one river city as well as three small settlements But Because the rail system to Baltimare is still connected to the capital and Ponyville every eastern coastal city is still able to function due to the ports. On teh west coast Las Pegasus is still connected by a road in the south and in the north connected by a port. And because Cloudsdale, the weather center is still under Equestria’s grip they still have air superiority. Heck even the divided Grifonstone is faring well against a tyrannical king and his conscripted army. The only advantage I see Sombra having is making equestria unable to counter strike. That said his forces are probably to stretched to make anymore expansion. Unless he takes a major city he won’t have enough forces to keep up the war. Equestria however is full on America during WW2. Producing more, building more and fielding more than Sombra could hope to field. The Crystal War is going exactly as World War 2 went. Germany taking large amounts of land but being stalled by key victories that eventually turned into a steady push back to it’s own borders.
It’d be a great basis for a series. Just the little bits in each timeline was interesting. Foals in the war against Sombra. Dragons having such a negative imagine in Nightmare’s. Pinkie being a Pegasus, tho you could chalk that up to a fumble. Many, many possibilities.
At least there’s plenty of stuff to be explored in spinoff material. I’m sure the comics will have issues with these alternate timelines one day.
Thanks for these map images and for the info. Suppose we have season 6 to maybe explore that… hopefully.
That’s Arimaspi territory. They haven’t gotten that far yet:
Thats a very excellent point… I mean one could assume it’d be in the “no-man’s land” between the Crystal Empire and Canterlot. Further wondering what the piece of land is right above Spike’s head frill. It just breaks there…
@Hollow_Shades_resident
The encirclement raises a big question however: Where exactly is the Front that AJ mentions?
