It does not, but the black iron set is second only to the giant’s set in terms of defensive capabilities when counting in all upgradable armors at max upgrade level.
@441TheSecond
Dodging is the only 100% effective defensive maneuver. Parrying is the best tactic overall, but is not always possible. Shielding is the safest option, but only against basic enemies. Unless you’re rocking the Havel set or something beefy like that.
@441TheSecond
Agreed. Dual wield in 2 is somewhat better but only if you’re able to power stance with your weapons. Only downside is you need lots of stamina for it and bring your A game when it comes to dodging.
@Lupin Quill
Oh yeah, didn’t think of that. The shores of that glorious place would be awesome for duels I would bet. Not that I’m much into PvP. Most of my Pvp experiences lately consist of annoying invaders killing my host with cheap weapons or OP spells, and before that it was getting swamped by blue phantoms because of all the NPCs I killed.
At least most blues seem to like a fair fight, so I had fun on my first run, but reds are just annoying when you are trying to show the game to a noob. PvP made some of my friends drop the game altogether, or they refuse to coop and stay hollow. Not fun.
@Lupin Quill
Thank god for Steam works integration. Although the transition was really crappy, now it runs well and I have no problems connection with friends for jolly cooperation.
And the fact that you can’t coop everywhere is kinda annoying, when you want to show your noob friends around. Want to experience the discovery of Ash Lake with someone? Nope, impossible.
@armadiloeater
Hey, when you buy the crappy windows live PC port like I did and don’t have a USB compatible xbox controller, getting off the character create screen is hard enough, let alone getting to Solaire. Killing him was a great accomplishment xD.

I don’t remember.
I also don’t care all that much because I don’t give things time to hit me. I slaughter them with a giant axe before they can even say “Buh-”.
Humm, I don’t remember the upgrades increasing poise, does it?
It gets better if you upgrade it.
Black Iron armor is a little light on poise for a heavy set, and Havel’s is easy to get from the start.
Tarkus set works as well.

You can’t parry every attack, and dodging is not always the best defensive maneuver.
That or they graduated from scrubdom by learning how to dodge and parry.
That’s actually how I played DS I and II… I did alright! (thanks to DSfix) :I Then I used a controller for BB and I was like “Oooooh!”
And here’s somebody who never actually played Dark Souls.
When you git gud and realize shields are for casuals.

Even when using two hands, you’ll want to have your shield on standby for when you need to block.
The only exception would be when dual-wielding, and honestly, dual-wielding isn’t worth a fuck in Dark Souls 1.
This 100%. I can’t think of a single time in Dark Souls when not having a shield out is a good idea.
when you don’t need it? when would you ever not need it?
I totally agree. Imagine how hard invasions were on my first run when I had to control the camera with keyboard arrows.

Yeah, I think one of the biggest gripes of the PvP community is that Ash Lake wasn’t an invadeable area.
