And then she gets back to the present and discovers that Sunburst has become a villain instead, an expert on surveillance and magic suppression with an Orwellian streak a mile wide, haunted by the murder of his childhood friend, who he watched die and whose killer was never brought to justice.

Well if i was in Twilight place i could got 3 options in anger
  • Tell her i don’t belive you and shooting her with deathball
    ~~Stop her and take her to some sort mini place ~~ pocket dimension where she will be imprisoned and that pocket dimension is with me
  • Being anger at her and then do the same with choice first or second

I already knew that’s just how you felt, I was just explaining how it is that I felt about it.

Long story short;

-Scapegoat plot that’s been done to death (time travel)
-Rushed development of a character
-Badly designed episode that wasted more time making fanfaction easier
-Lack of common sense from the main character
-Enemy has completely unprecedented power-up
-Horrible backstory
-Bad resolution

I can still see them forgiving her if they believe her repentance is genuine; after all, all three of them were more than happy to spend time with Discord in “What About Discord?” But, again, rushed reformation, musical montage, no time for any nuance. I wish there had been an episode dedicated to Starlight’s heel-face turn and her personal apology tour, including scenes where some of the villagers weren’t willing to forgive, rather than cramming everything into the last 5-7 minutes of an episode, but it’s too late now.

And just to make sure it’s clear, this is how I feel about it, not how I insist everyone should feel about it.

Which would be nice if not for three things;

1 - Rarity

2 - Applejack

and 3 - Rainbow Dash

These three have proven before that they can’t be willing to forgive someone, as evidenced by how all three agreed together that they would re-imprison Discord for what he did to them. It makes sense when you think about it;

-Applejack knows how to be level headed and handle something the old fashioned way.

-Rarity is the type to be scornful towards those that she dislikes as well, such as with Surly, the Diamond Dogs, and at least a couple of others.

-Rainbow Dash is very hot headed, easily angered, and quick to start throwing punches, not to mention would seem like the least willing to forgive out of the three. She’d probably fly towards Starlight with the intent of ramming her hoof as far into the latter’s face as possible before trying to hug her.

Oh, no doubt I’d have a hard time being that forgiving. But I also like for the protagonists of children’s fantasy shows to be more virtuous and admirable than I am. After all, their forgiveness isn’t a statement about how minor Starlight’s crimes were, but a statement about how willing they are to let go of the past and give her a second chance.

In their defense, they really shouldn’t have much of a reason to forgive her so easily to begin with. She did some really, really intense stuff, and for the stupidest of reasons. Hell, if not that, then it would have to be the fact that she stole their cutie marks and very identities in the process, imprisoned them against their will, then forcibly tried to indoctrinate her horrible ideals onto them until they submitted to her will and became more of her mindless slaves. Would you be able to forgive her for wronging you THAT MUCH?

I have no problem assuming that, legally speaking, Starlight Glimmer is free only because she’s on probation, with Twilight taking responsibility for her actions; Equestrian laws, judging by their absence from the series thus far, seem lax and forgiving enough to allow for that explanation. That’s admittedly my take on the matter, though, and it also assumes that what we saw of Starlight’s backstory was a very abbreviated, simplified version. I can certainly understand arguing that she ought to face harsher legal consequences, though; it’s the people arguing that the Main 7 and the Friendly 4 shouldn’t have forgiven her so easily that I’m annoyed with.

I’ll admit it, season six episodes that have had Starlight be the main focus have actually been alright thus far, particularly No Second Prances, but I still can’t agree with letting her get away with all of her crimes.

I’ve pretty much established my own head-canon that Starlight was sentenced to quite a bit of time in an asylum until she was deemed mentally healthy enough to be allowed free. I mean, if she were in a trial of some kind, it would make sense for her case to end with pleading insanity, so that would be a nice way to have everyone win. Glimmer still faces justice for her crimes, and she can be added to the cast without being a liability towards the safety of the nation.

@DarkStars
Actually, I think they added her to the cast to give Twilight someone to mentor. Personally, I would’ve preferred to keep her as an anti-cutie-mark villain, and her reformation was really rushed and dumbed-down, but I think she’s been an OK character so far in season 6.
DarkStars

I felt Glimmer was a bit to sociopathic at times, and was redeemed to easily too, but I still kinda enjoyed the finale. I don’t hate her, though frankly I liked her better in the season 5 premiere.

Thank for saying what it is that I was thinking. Starlight Glimmer was a better antagonist during the premiere, but the writers completely dropped the ball with her character during the finale as they made this interesting fascist monster suddenly become some whiny little brat without a definition for ‘common sense’. The only explanation is that she’s completely out of her mind, and that just makes her even less capable of being in society as she is now. The redemption was rushed, and she was forced onto the main cast because the writers felt sorry for her and didn’t want to completely throw a character away altogether.

Just because I enjoyed this comic doesn’t mean I hate Starlight Glimmer, far from it actually. This method of stopping Starlight Glimmer would have been fast and easy for a sociopath.

I’m looking forward to seeing if Starlight Glimmer appears in the next season, if I can hold out for that long.
