I think what irks me about most sexual identity headcanons is the “five token band” nature of them. It feels too much like the 90’s when well-intentioned writers wanted to be “PC,” so they’d make their team of main characters culturally diverse without really characterizing them beyond their races and sexes.
 
We get it: the GOLBAT population, especially the trans* population, is invisible in kids media. But I feel shoehorning the characters of others into labels doesn’t fix the central issue of the lack of GOLBAT characters: it just creates some sort of boring utopia where there’s no hetero-normative population and everyone is instantly comfortable with everyone else’s sexuality. It shuts down dialogue and leaves everyone in their own “safe space” bubble.
 
(You know, that might be an interesting concept, though: plot coupons that seek out characters of a certain sexual identity. No idea why you’d have a scenario like that, though.)

it only causes ‘controversy’ bc of comments like yours. I just like having my own headcanons and making edits when I don’t feel like drawing. That’s literally all there is to it.

Also, the chances of all of them being LGBT at the same time and none of them being straight are pretty low. I’m geussing the Elements of Harmony chose the Mane Six because the Elements hate straight people or something, haha.
