“Hope, I have something to tell you…”
 
The mare turns back towards Emerald concernedly and says, “Is everything okay?”
 
“I’m… Not from Trotton… I’m from the east and… And I can’t go back there, my parents are there and they are the ponies who put this ring one me…”
 
Hope gives Emerald a hug. It’s so soft and warm, especially against the chill of the night. Emerald starts crying.
 
“They made me do things that I… I…”
 
“It’s okay honey, I’m here. Anything you want to say or don’t want to say. I’m here to listen.”
 
Emerald starts sobbing in earnest, and the both of them sit there in the middle of the road at night, just embracing.
 
Eventually Emerald calms down at Hope asks, “Do you want to talk about it?”
 
Emerald shakes his head.
 
“It’s okay dear, like I said, I’m here.”
 
They continue on their way, and Emerald suddenly remembers something important.
 
“Um, on my way to Trotton I came across a mare who tried to get me to drink some stew that I think was drugged…”
 
“What did this mare look like?”
 
Emerald explains Stargazer to Hope, and Hope nods and says, “Well now I’m sure my friend can’t be close behind.”
 
“Y-your friend isn’t Stargazer?” Hope says alarmed.
 
“No, but she was chasing her.”
