Maybe its cheating but if you want to get closer to show accuracy get an official screenshot of a pony and put it side by side with yoyr drawing. Then you can compare the proportions and make some adjustments. You can do this til its second nature

Do’t take it thw wrong way, but… Twilight looks retarded.  
Her neck reaches halfway of her body, her front leg comes from just in front of the rear leg.  
Her face is squished and too long, her tail is too big compared to her body…
 
Also, AJ is too long, suffers the same long face and thick neck (though not as much) as Twi…  
The rest of AJ and the background are okay…
 
I’m not sure if a brush would tickle, though. A feather would be better.
 
Oh, and try using a different shadow… there’s no way a clipboard would have a round shadow.
