Yeah, that’s what it’s called.
 
For a walk cycle, you should work up a basic skeleton before you draw any of the shapes. This way, it’s easier to track down movements of shapes to create smooth animation, even traditionally. Sorta like on this cycle I never finished:

I gave up on this because the wave cycle on the tail was too hard.
