Emerald looks through the keyhole, and tries really hard to see if anything is there.

Emerald sees what looks like a table and lot’s of cages. He thinks the place is empty until he sees something in one of the cages flitter around. It looks like a bird, but Emerald can’t tell from here.
 
Emerald very carefully opens the door and steps inside. What he thought was a table looks more to be an operating table. There are large scuffs and dried blood on it. Most of the cages in the room are empty save for the one that holds what is indeed a bird. A canary to be more precise.
 
As soon as Emerald enters the canary starts to tweet at him and rattle the cage.
