This card would be hard to justify if it didn’t give your opponent two 1-cost minions. Its only value is to give you two Unstable Portals in one card slot, which is ruined by forcing you to spend 6 mana before you can start playing reduced-cost minions. Unstable Portal is generally powerful for the same reason Innervate is powerful, but this card won’t give you a mana acceleration effect.

Also, this card is slower than Hungry Dragon, and there’s a reason Hungry Dragon isn’t played.

I’ll agree to that completely, only people that like to play with RNG will love this card. But just think about this: turn 8, two Unstables and two Dimentional portals in hand, maybe you have some secrets to protect you. You play both Dimentionals. Turn 9 you have SIX unstable portals in hand… Oh lawdy just thinking about it…

Play them until you get something good, spam “greetings”, laug as you look at your opponent’s board clogged with two Shield bearers, enemy champ explodes as he gives up and uninstalls the game.

Yeah, basically this card has to be played in the late game, its not a turn 4 play unless you have nothing else, or you dont care (For example, if you’re baiting enemy to get more more minions for a Frost Nova Doomsayer turn)

The card is just a lot more niche than I wish it was.

Eeeh, I don’t know… It’s 8 mana to create 2 minions at a 6 mana discount, price wise it still stands. The draw mechanic makes it better than arcane intellect, since you know which cards you’ll get, plus they aren’t drawn from your deck. So if you only consider it as a draw card and forget about the enemy summons it’s pretty good.

Then when you consider that Unstable Portal is one of the best cards in the game I think it justifies the drawback completely. Statistically you are very likely to gain value from Unstable (about 70% chances considering the number of 3+ mana minions), so giving your opponent two most likely useless minions is not such a big deal.

Play this in a mage control deck, then you don’t even have to worry about losing tempo. I mean having 6 unstable portals in your deck? Sign me in.

I do agree with the argument that its slow, because the Unstable Portals also costs two, so you wouldnt be able to play the minions on Turn 5, you would have to wait for turn 6 at the minimum, and that just gave your opponent two turns to turn around and control the board, considering that the 4 and 5 drops are generally a really good turnover point.

If the unstable portals this card created were free, then the problem wouldnt exist. but right now it costs 8 mana to create 2 random monsters, and that very much offset the mana reduction on the portal itself. and THEN there’s a drawback.

Either get rid of the drawback and keep it as an inherently slow card to play later in the game in control-heavy decks, or make the portals free and speed up the card considerably.

This card into two free portals that are reduced will either make it so you get 3cost or lower minions for free that you can play on the same turn, or much bigger minions that you can play on Turn 5. (You could play two 5 mana minions, or up to a 8mana minion, which is pretty good tempo)

Hey, don’t call me mister, buddy!
No but seriously this card is like a toss of the coin: you are right, you could receive two useless minions for a big tempo loss, but you could also get two awesome minions at discount that will make the game interesting. It could give you the game, or it could set you back a turn. All in all, I think it’s worth it. You only need to listen to the public’s reaction in “competitive hearthstone” when someone gets an unstable portal from a random draw, it’s an awesome spell even if it could be useless. No one would pass up having two more in your deck.

This particular spell would be like putting half your ships on the table on a blind hand in poker: if you lose you’ll be behind, but could still make it. And if you win it’s glorious!

Also two millhouse on turn 5? Enemy plays free flamestrike and ends with thaurissan

NO. this one time I will make a final argument, you are essentially paying for two 4 mana portals via reverse-overload which is horribly slow while giving him 2 minions that he can easily buff with flametongue or argus or abusive or power overwhelming or blessing of kings or velen’s chosen so screw you mister

@armadiloeater
no, I said this card was too slow and gave you my reasoning and relying on rng is not the core of the game but rather a major part of the fun/rage so have fun getting Nat Pagle and Millhouse :>
I do realized that I tend to take fanmade HS cards a little too seriously so on this note I will rest my case

It’s a mage card, the best class against agro decks with its secrets and board control.
You can say this of any draw card, spending a turn just getting cards. The difference here is that you are getting two copies of one of the best cards in the game. Relying on RNG is the core of hearthstone, and no, it won’t cost you the game more often than not. The chances of getting two 1 cost minions is pretty low when you consider that Unstable portal will draw from a pool of every minion possible, so it’s a coin toss that is most likely to get you a minion around 4-5. Meaning next turn you could play two good minions for almost free.

Are you going to argue that unstable portal is a bad card?
Stone_

@armadiloeater
I did mean intellect
deck thinning is not an argument since thought steal exists, if you’re up against an aggro deck you will be dead before you have a chance to play those portal minions, you pretty much spend 2 turns doing nothing other than casting this + 2 portals while the two 1-cost minions and the other ones bash your face in, relying this heavily on rng will more often than not cost you the game

You had some randomness since the start of the game, but Blizz went nuts with random effects afterwards, actually it pushed a lot of players away. It made competitive even more popular though.

Do you mean arcane intellect? Because you can’t really compare the two like this. Arcane intellect gives you two draws, this card adds two cards to your hand. It’s superior value all on its own. Then there is the fact that the two cards that will cost 3 less to play and it’s one of the best mage cards out there.

I’ve seen games be decided by unstable portals alone, this card gives you the possibility to play 4 portals in one game, it’s pretty great for comedy sake alone. I think most people would play it, choosing it over arcane intellect without hesitation.
Stone_

I think this card is too slow, compare it to arcane knowledge, so you spend 1 more mana to do absolutely nothing on turn 4 to get two 2 cost cards that have no guarantee to give you anything useful, summoning two 1 cost minions for your opponent adds to the slowness and worst case: those minions have synergy with the ones already on the board

“Add two more chances to insta win the game.” Fricking love dimensional portals, they cause so much salty chaos!
I think this card is fine, it fits the randomness Hearthstone has been courting since GVG. Maybe it would be a little more balanced if it was “summon two random 2 cost minions”, but I can totally see it happening as it is.
