Honestly? I just like the idea of them being bigger. Feels right to me.
Well the first appearance of them certainly emphasized their size
and on a related note, I find it kinda odd that everyone seems to draw griffons significantly larger than ponies, when they’re really about the same size
well, if you really want to bring canon evidence into the mix…
your current filter.gryphons can casually pick up a pony as large as they are with one claw

Not usually, probably because most artists have enough trouble getting the prey in there in the first place >.>
Fair warning, though, if you prefer regurgitation being how the scenario ends then you might not want to stick around for the end of the comic.
Because that griffon is a natural carnivorous animal twice the size of her. Good luck with that
