I have question: how many times did the artist’s computer burst into flame handling all this cuteness? I only ask because my 10 year old desktop died after displaying this image.

Because it makes sense. Why bother turning ponies into humans at all, besides “the plot needs it”? It helps protect the traveler and those on the other side. If it doesn’t turn humans into ponies when they go through that purpose for the change is violated.
 
Human Pinkie partially went through it at the end of Rainbow Rocks. So we know it can be used by humans.
 
We know it turned Twilight and Sunset back into ponies after they were human, so it’s fully capable of turning humans into ponies. Why shouldn’t we assume that it’ll work the same for humans?
 
It has nothing to do with humans being “impure”.

Description is slightly off. Instead of “in your normal form”, which wouldn’t make much sense since Sunny’s a pony, source has “in your current form”.

Everyone automatically assumes that (natural) humans would turn into ponies, if they entered Equestria from their side of the mirror. This might not actually be the case… it’s possible they’d stay human, and that the transformation only works on magical creatures on Equestria’s side to make them human (and gets reversed when they go back).
 
I think the humans to ponies idea is a side-effect of stuff like The Conversion Bureau, in that humans are “too impure” to step foot in Equestria. I’d like to see a story or something where Sunset and Sci-Twi go to Equestria but Sci-Twi stays human, even though everyone assumed the mirror works both ways.
 
As for this pic, well… that’s either the native human Sunset, or Sunset can shift from pony to human form at will when in Equestria. I could actually see the latter being viable with the amount of time she’s lived that way.
