Just swiped off DA or wherever. The comic is chock full of fan original vector work (as in not show-traced). Not exactly a new phenomenon; Gameloft’s mobile thing also uses fanart all over the place (also some of mine).
the whole “abusive home = bad guy” is a massive misunderstanding because the media loves to use the “abusive past” cliche because it’s basically the “easy” button when it comes to explaining why villains are villains and bullies are bullies. (exibit a and b: babs and diamond tiara). the vast majority of bullies actually come from stable and good homes. realistically out of all the fillies, it’s apple bloom who would be most likely to be a bully, but that’s just statistics.
in reality, while people tend to have issues from abusive homes, it’s actually less than 10% of people from such upbringings who turn out to be aggressive or as criminals. the remainder end up perfectly decent, if with a few issues, and often end up as police, rescue service, or military because they have a strong desire to protect others, essentially from what they had to go through, and seek true camaraderie and a stable “backing” (i’m safe because my buddies will back me up).
@The Smiling Pony
did they steal them or did they actually commission them?
They’re made by Hasbro employees, so yeah, as canon. Plus they use my vectors =p
Umm yeah NO, the horrible pasted-together vector comic you’re talking about isn’t anywhere close to “canon” or on the level of the IDW publications…
European publishers tend to stitch these together for various kids’ magazines and such - we have a bunch of them already on this site, actually. It’s something they’ll do - they’ll decide that they’ll have an, oh, idk, Care Bears Magazine (insert popular show here) so they’ll throw in some puzzles, Q&As, news, and of course, often, a comic. They are created by editors who aren’t too concerned or knowledgeable about the actual shows usually, everything is fine until the stuff is kid friendly. It’s kind of amazing how they can create a product out of nothing really, actually.
I don’t know what the approval process between Hasbro and these distributors are but I imagine it’s like, “we need X filler pages. OK, you got the money? Fine, go ahead.” I don’t think Hasbro really expects anybody to read these in the UK/US in the first place.
Her mom is part of IDW, not entirely show canon and an ad-hoc inclusion to give Trixie a teeny-tiny cameo. The other Hasbro comic line (the stuff they put in euro magazines) has Trixie travelling sans-mom between different towns/cities and treated harshly by the public, and that comic is just as “canon” as IDW’s.
Aside from that, there are plenty of people with a rough upbringing that turn out lovey-dovey nice, and plenty with a fully supporting and full of love family that don’t. Nevermind that we’re just seeing a one-second snapshot; Trixie looked really nervous, perhaps her mom is one of those “tiger moms” and has really high expectations? Perhaps something really bad happened shortly after starting school? Trixie became essentially a vagrant and had to work in a rock farm when things went sour, after all, so the support she had seemed to go away at some point.
Button’sTrixie’s mom has got it going on!…porn when
