Kek that’s wrong though
The original idea came from my one attempt at reading what’s essentially the ‘Satanic Bible’ - I read two chapters, then decided I wasn’t confident enough in my ‘wisdom’ to risk more - but I’m paraphrasing and simplifying from memories from several years ago.
Either way, the point stands, whether it’s from the book or I somehow created it myself;
It is through adversity and challenge that we gain strength.
By helping others, you take the challenge for yourself.
And so you rob them of the strength they’d gain, leaving them even less able to tackle later trouble.
Ultimately, helping others is selfish, and seeking help is foolish.
You can then twist it inside out, mind you, and end up with a justification for adventure and general heroics: By helping others, you can encounter far more adversity than would come your way ordinarily, and as such you would grow far stronger.
If you learn nothing, you forget nothing.
And who forget nothing is smart.
