The next week or so passes easily as Emerald starts to work into a routine. He gets up, eats breakfast, teaches Ruby to read, practices magic, does some light gambling.

Emerald has to admit that he thinks he is getting quite good at teaching Ruby to read. She is understanding and retaining more and more, and she can read simple sentences now. Emerald comes to find when his thoughts drift he tends to start thinking on what and how he’ll teach Ruby next.

Emerald has to admit that he also feels like he is getting a hang of the push spell. He comes to find that depending on how large the object is he can use the spell a good dozen times or so.

The only unfortunate thing to happen is that Emerald attempted to sneak a weapon into his room. He found a spare saber in one of the boxes he was pushing around the storage area. He attempted to get it to his cabin so he could hide it under his bed in case the pirate attack went wrong, but he was caught by one of the pirates he didn’t recognize and given a stern talking too. Since then he hadn’t given the pirate raid much thought.

In fact, Emerald had almost forgotten about it until he came walking up on deck one morning to see Bo, the Captain, and Joyride standing in front of a pegasus who is perched on the rail of the ship.

“Good, we should intercept them around mid-day then. Get some rest, you might need it.” The captain says. The pegasus nods, and flaps over to the nearby staircase.

Emerald sees the trio speaking too each other in words just above a whisper, though he can’t make them out.

Reminds me of my brief time being a tutor teaching english to a turkish businessman. There was just something about it that seemed so fulfilling for me. It only lasted about a month and a half because I had just moved several states away to live with my girlfriend. I may try looking to be a tutor again sometime, though where I live now doesn’t have nearly as many immigrants.
