I hated that’s the fate for the Royal Sisters here.  
Getting taken out and just meant to make the other heroes look good.  
It hurts worse for Luna’s case since she came back from moon only to just keep falling flat on her face during villain crisis or get sidelined/not involved.  
Her track record looks worse than Celestia’s in comparison due to losing a 1000 years. Celestia at least had the record of managing to protect Equestria on her own for a 1000 years(no way in hell no threats popped up during a 1000 years).  
Luna doesn’t have that.
 
Its just awful handling for Luna and Celestia there.

Yeah, that’s what’s disappointing. Every major enemy for the first few seasons had “Rained terror and destruction until Tia and Lulu put the kibosh on them HARD and only now centuries later is it wearing off” as an origin story.
 
I know if the sisters solved everything the mane six would have nothing to do, but whenever it’s “the sisters are 100% useless, the Mane Six go through a hundred footsoldiers to get the Magic Shiny Thing,” it could easily instead be “the sisters hold off a dozen waves of footsoldiers without breaking a sweat but have to stay where they are to keep doing so, leaving the Mane Six to only have to get through the last hundred to reach the Magic Shiny Thing.”

Well that SA has no Chance against Tirek and Sombra is no shame and Chryssi manipulated him.
 
At least more understandable than the two sisters. How did they beat all the powerful monsters back then? Just with the elements? And Tirek they were even warned by Scorpan.
