Description
The next morning starts like most of the rest on the ship. Emerald gets out of bed and without really thinking about it walks up to the galley to meet up with Ruby. She’s peeling potatoes again, and after snacking on some fruit Emerald asks her if he can show him how to use a knife.
“Really? I’d love too!” Ruby says smiling broadly, “It’ll be my payback for all the reading you taught me. Don’t think i’ll go easy!”
Ruby then gives him a hard punch on the arm, “We’ll do it after I finish up helping with lunch.”
In the mean time Emerald goes to look for Joyride, and finds her on deck sunbathing again. Emerald asks if she can teach him any more spells.
“So needy, aren’t ya?” Joyride says, sitting up, “Hmm… Well, you wanted to learn some sort of light spell, right? I guess I could show you that one.”
Joyride takes Emerald to a dark corner of the ship, and holds up her arms and alights her horn. A second later a small ball of light hovers a few inches from her hooves. It’s way different from the light he is used to. The flames of the guttering candles on the ship give an uneven light that almost dances off the walls, but this light is an almost eerie, dull blue constant glow. It reminds him a lot of the streetlamps from Whiterwater, and he wonders if it’s the same magic.
Joyride coaches Emerald on how to cast the spell for a few minutes before Emerald manages to get a firefly sized light to pop into his hooves.
“Good, now just practice sustaining it and making it bigger. Brightness will come on it’s own. Now, back to suntanning.” Joyride says, walking off.
Emerald works a routine for the next few days where he spends one half of a day practicing his push and lighting spells, and the latter half practice knife skills and reading with Ruby. Ruby is of course not a master at either craft, but he does admit to learning some knife skills from her.

||It’s unfortunate that the skip happened as I had plans for Emerald to make amends with Joyride via the milker. But what’s done is done and I guess I shouldn’t be bitter, the cyoa is more than just one player after all. ||
