Emerald sneaks over to the door, and starts to listen in.
“-thing is ridiculous.” The Captain finishes.
“Never underestimate the undead, especially when they have someone controlling them.” Joyride says, sharply.
“Hey, what are you doing!” A voice says from behind Emerald, causing him to jump. Emerald instinctively tries to run, but a pirate grabs him by his necklace and hauls him into the room.
Joyride, Bo, and the Captain look sternly at Emerald, who shrinks into himself slightly.
“Caught this one listenin’ in at the door.” The pirate says.
“Thank you Warbler. We’ll deal with him.” The captain says.
The pirate leaves, and the silence stretches on, making Emerald even more nervous. He flinches as Joyride says, “How much did you hear?”
Emerald, not wanting to get into any more trouble but still wanting to know what is going on, especially after they mentioned the undead, says he heard all of it.
Joyride says, “You need to be careful with eavesdropping, Emerald. It’s going to get you in big trouble one of these days, especially if you do it around ponies that are less friendly than us. Now come here, sit, and be quiet.”
Joyride’s glare is so icy Emerald does so without hesitation.
As if they weren’t interrupted, the Captain continues, “I don’t see anyway around it. Daybreak says they have three warships coming at us from the normal route. We have to go through the strait.”
The Captain points to a small red dot on a map on the table.
“If worse comes to worse I can just sink the ships.” Joyride replies.
“And what are they going to do? Swim up on us and ram the ship with their cracked and waterlogged skulls? Attack us with hollow, bleached bird bones from above? You’d be surprised, Joyride, but I’ve faced the undead on my ship before.” The Captain says, throwing his hands up.
