Indeed, it’s refreshing seeing Spike actually flex the talents he was trained to do as opposed to just wandering around and being the butt of a joke. Starlight gives him a purpose again.
 
I’m a hardcore Sparity shipper, but honestly, I find this to be the true next best thing, and on the context provided of season 6 so far, I currently am approving of this MORESO than sparity.
 
it basically comes down to how much time Starlight spends with her new/old friend who is “not a wizard”.

That’s…actually a good point. I think that’s the reason I feel Spike and Starlight work so well together. They remind me of what Spike and Twilight once were earlier in the series. But as time has gone on, Twilight has needed Spike less and less. So with Starlight being Twilight’s student now and Twi possibly using the same teaching methods as Celestia, we may see a lot more of Spike and Starlight this season. I hope we do in a friendship sense. I wouldn’t mind a shiptease of this though since Sparity has probably run its course at this point.

Perhaps not this well, but…

Am I the only one that understand what is happening with spike and starlight? starlight replaced twilight in the role of student, twilight doesnt need spike as before, thats why spike will spend the most time with starlight during the season, and probably starlight will take total care of spike on the season finale
