Nah, Anon came from Earth, where ponies were the original inhabitants. Humans sacrificed their magic science to make a new, gravitationally-rational solar system, and the ponies were so stunned by this power that they evolved into horses.

So this is suddenly a Time-Travel story?

We actually know the canonical end to this from Journal of the Two Sisters. Unicorns spend the entire time from here on in moving the sun and moon, a process that is so exhausting they’re utterly and completely drained of their magical energies in most cases until the coming of Celestia and Luna, who end up magical channels of the energies of their respective celestial bodies instead (and manage to heal the unicorns that have survived draining themselves prior to this, though given how long it’s been there are plenty of unicorns who died, magically exhausted from their efforts.)
 
Sacrifice is very much the result of this, both in the Unicorn Sun and the efforts needed to keep Earth/Equestria from becoming a half-burnt, half-frozen planet thereafter.

Now we just need a prequel documenting the rise of the ponies and the humans’ magical power, as well as the humans’ fall from magical grace.
 
That’d most likely be a big project to undertake, and I don’t expect to ever see it, but it would be interesting to see.

I’ve always liked the idea that Equestria is just part of our Earth’s future. It would help explain why there are so many similarities between our two worlds; they’re actually the same world!
