well, it wasn’t exactly hypocrisy, but I suppose it’s easier to just copy and paste your replies instead of writing them.
argumentum ad hominem. it’s latin for “argue at human.” I just wanted to make sure you knew what it was, and that it was a fallacy. you should only use fallacies when you have no good argument, and want to trick people into thinking you do.
oh and the comment you replied to isn’t ad-hominem, because the writers aren’t arguing anything. it’s just a bitter insult.
“john is manbaby” = insult
“only manbabys like you say that” = ad hominem.

If it’ll make you feel better to spin a hypocrisy callout that way, then sure, you roll with that.
so because they did it it’s ok for you to do it seems to be what you’re saying.
ad-hominem
Context is important, yo; if you want your finger-wagging to carry any weight, try to save it for a situation where the comment you’re wagging at isn’t just a “NO U” response which literally quotes– verbatim– somebody else having already said exactly the same thing. Ignoring the context here completely deflates your argument by making it obvious that you’re a partisan on the issue being “discussed”, and are only sniping at me about it because you disagree with my position.
…Say, what’s that term again for attacking the person instead of their argument?
ad-hominem is attacking the character of the arguer, without attacking the argument
just thought you might want to know.
Thanks, I appreciate that. I was starting to think my opinions just piss people off here. lol
I have a more neutral opinion on the whole IDW dramas overall. Yet, some still accuse me of being biased, just ‘cause I don’t passionately hate the comics like many here do, or because I actually like Jay Fosgitt’s art.
Well I don’t know anything about deleting criticisms. Really there are two big things I remember from that whole mess he was involved in, one of which was that a lot of people got upset when a poster here complained that Whitely had blocked him for daring to try and explain what didn’t work about a comic arc he had worked on. I believe @chaotic-7 has summed up the fandom interpretation of this act.
Some people think he was justified in doing so, others did not, and he was probably not as polite in some of his responses to the latter as he could have been. Still, that’s kind of a trying situation, and not everyone has the kind of patience for this sort of stuff Jim Miller does.
The other thing I remember is that there was actually a post here where a response he made was offered on its own without context, which did not put him in the best light. The problem was, he literally was responding to someone who had suggested his death might be a preferable option to continuing to work on the comic, and without knowing that part of the conversation it made him look a lot worse than he deserved.
Ultimately I think you probably have the best attitude about this. He’s certainly not a saint, but there is exaggeration here and some of it is decidedly unfair against him.
@TexasUberAlles
When people do things like that, it makes me unsure how truthful it is that Whitely is the “root of all evil.”
Not saying he’s a saint, (and it was unfair of IDW to delete negative critiques, unless they were being nasty/insulting) but I think sometimes the anti-
IDW/MLP-comic crowd have a tendency to exaggerate.
And should add I don’t really follow the MLP comics anymore, so you guys can’t accuse me of saying that out of favoritism torwards the comics. I’m not too into them anymore, but I don’t consider them blasphemous either like many people here do.

wait
do you mean to tell me that people who have an agenda deliberately leave out context to make the target of their ire seem unreasonable and extreme
next you’ll tell me “stop looking at comics that anger you” is some kind of valid response to constant complaining about comics
crazy talk just crazy talk
You forgot to add “people who crop twitter conversations where he responds to someone telling him to kill himself in a way that leaves just his justifiably displeased response devoid of context” to the list of “critics”
Oh yeah, absolutely– “man-babies who desprerately think the universe revolves around them” totally doesn’t perfectly describe the loudest and poutiest of Whitley and IDW’s “critics”.
Yep, just a couple of man-babies who desprerately think the universe revolves around them. Though, just so you know I wasn’t bashing Whitely for his skills as a writer I honestly could care less about the whole “Radiant Hope is a Marry-Sue” drama. I was bashing him for his complete lack of integrity.
Whitely: M-m-Mr.P-p-p-publisher? S-s-some people said sniffle huff * huff* that they didn’t like my story arc? (Sniffleing and huffing intensifies) And they were gonna explain why? sob But I didn’t let them? S-s-so I blocked them? (More huffing and puffing) Because I’m right? N-n-no exceptions? S-s-so Snif Now Snif I’m Snif getting Snif picked Snif on Snif by B-b-b-bronies and you need to (more sobbing) make it staaahaaap!
Honestly, Whitley is nowhere near as bad as Ken, and Ken has now done way more damage to the Sonic comic with that whole “My characters! Donotsteal!” incident then Jeremy could do to the MLP comic, if he tried.
Worse yet, Ken announced on Twitter recently he’s planning on buying the copyright of even Sonic comic characters he didn’t create (ones he didn’t previously give a crap about writing for like Mina Mongoose) so that means MORE characters we’ll never see again. (Ken even tried to justify himself stating he’s doing it to protect the characters and their creators. Said creators moved on from the Sonic comic, unlike Ken. So it’s pointless, and just ridiculous.)
The IDW thread in the forums
I am not touching the poop, sorry. I like TSP, I don’t want that vein on his forehead to get any closer to rupturing.
There are of course people who only read the comics so they can have something to bitch about, but there is no way in Tartarus that they’re actually paying money to do so; they’re bitching over scans they found on Reddit or [whatever]chan threads devoted specifically to bitching about the comics
Say it louder for the people in the back The IDW thread in the forums
Yeah it definitely sounds like Ken Penders and Jeremy Whitely should have a baby together. Shudders Could you just imagine that kind of immalgameted mess?
I only refrenced Whitely, only because of what an increadibly thin skinned man-baby he is. I mean, yeah not everyone is going to like what you put out there and some people are going to say some hateful things. But on the flip-note you can’t just go online and announce that everything you do is a godsend and everybody should praise you for it. Like when he tweeted “I’m raising a brown little girl” it was almost like he was expecting some type of Nobel Peace Prize.
I’m not trying to bash the MLP comics, but when you have self-absorbed, arrogant doushebags who think they’re above everyone else? Then yeah the comic is going suffer, mainly because your alienating your fanbase (which is the comic book industry’s bread and butter) and also when one acts as said pompous doushe fewer and fewer people will want to read a comic with that person’s name as the author of whatever comic is printed.
He quit from what I heard by request of the editor at the time back in 2006. So apparently he agreed to quit.
It wasn’t until like a few years ago he started that “MY characters! Donotsteal!” legal drama (angry over the game “Sonic Chronicles” subtley referencing the echidna Dark Legion from the comics) making a mess of things.
With the way he’s been acting, and trying to claim copyright on characters like “Knuckles’ Mother,” and “Robin Hood the Hedgehog” (not to mention other characters whom look like Sonic or Knuckles) some have labeled him “the professional Chris Chan.”
Yeah about that, didn’t Ken Penders initially get fired from the comics from years ago?
Actually, they had some pretty cool stories after that one, and changed up the status quo’ a bit, so it wasn’t that repetative to me. I will admit the Geoffrey thing came outta nowhere, but I kinda wanted to see where they were going with it. (Unfortunately, now, thanks to the Ken Penders’ lawsuit, and semi-reboot they were forced to do, we’ll never see some characters like Julie or Geoffrey in the comic ever again.)
To be honest, I liked it better when they brought back the cheesy humor to the series. During the later Ken Penders & Karl Bollers period, they got a bit to grimdark at times, without much humor. I think there needs to be balance with the dark and light with Sonic. Even the games while dark at times still have their silly/funny moments. (Even unintentionally.)

Yeah, I was an avid reader myself, but soon noticed the writting was becoming both dull and repetitious. I think the last issue I’ve gotten was the one with Ant and Bunnie’s wedding. Soon after it was at the point that I couldn’t afford the comics but I still read them at my local comic shop. But as I read them the more and more cheezy they became, like when they started referring Julie-Su as the “femme fatale” or when Geoffrey St. Jhon suddenly had magical powers I just thought to myself “really?!”
Doesn’t mean that I stopped liking the characters though.
To be fair, some of the things the anon’s say boarder more on “rude troll comment” rather then just expressing an opinion.
Opinion = “I don’t like Katie’s stories.”
Being a tool = “Hahaha I’m glad she’s gone!”
Know the difference.
@chaotic-7
Personally, when the Sonic comics got dull for me I stopped reading ’em, then picked ’em up later, and found ‘em more enjoyable. I don’t get why some obsess over series they dislike. Same for those ex-bronies who complain about every new episode.
@TexasUberAlles
Despite the comics ups & downs I agree. The comics are the only place some characters like Celestia get any focus, or development. (Good or bad.) In fact I kinda liked the Celestia Micro, which was the first time she was ever the focus of a story. (Somewhat.)

You make a good point, it just boggles the mind why so many people get so butthurt over something so… petty.
just about everyone hates the MLP comics
There are tens of thousands of fans who disagree with their dollars every month; remember that print copy sales probably don’t even tell half the story, because none of the major comic book publishers release their online sales figures.
There are of course people who only read the comics so they can have something to bitch about, but there is no way in Tartarus that they’re actually paying money to do so; they’re bitching over scans they found on Reddit or [whatever]chan threads devoted specifically to bitching about the comics.
@dynamicv
she’s taking a break from MLP because she’s focusing on other projects right now
I suuuuuper hope that at least one of those projects is an ongoing Penelope Parker series, I would buy extra copies of that action to give out to strangers.
@untraceablelarry
Celestia needs more time as being anything but ‘‘character who gives Twilight exposition’’ and ‘‘character who gets defeated to make a villain look stronger’’
The comics are about the only place she’s been getting any of that.
