@untraceablelarry
For you, this may be a lie, but at the moment, I suspect most fans would say Jim’s telling the truth about this episode. Or maybe it’s, y’know, an opinion.
I was listening to you till the part about Garble, using the dragon that makes since to be the antagonist as such was stupid? You lost me there that makes no sense.
Anyway, the most recent episode wasn’t bad, but that doesn’t make it good (Spike and all dragons just straight up being pagers is stupid, having allegedly every dragon [all 20 of them] compete along with the baby is stupid, having the king discourage his daughter while summoning the baby was stupid, having that one asshole from Dragon Quest as pretty much the only other competing dragon that mattered was stupid… There was much stupidity). Ember was cool though.
@TheOtakuX
Acting retarded isn’t a joke in and of itself; you have to do something else with it.
If we get multiple good Spike episodes this season that might change but if this was the only one we get then I fully expect it to go back to “Spike episodes are usually not very good”.
I am saying that, IMHO at least, they are good episodes, not good-for-a-Spike-episode-but-really-just-OK episodes. And I’m fully aware that’s a minority opinion, apparently bordering on unique.
@MethidMan
And I feel like I was alone in not expecting “Equestria Games” to focus on the games themselves. Granted, I was expecting a couple more scenes featuring the competition, but I knew it wouldn’t be “Princess Twilight’s All-Star Laff-A-Lympics”.
As for this episode being widely beloved, don’t worry, by the time the next Spike episode rolls around, the “new episode buzz” will have died off and the “Spike never has good episodes” meme will return.
I give Spike a lot of credit in this episode and that is VERY HARD FOR ME TO DO.
Actually becoming dragon lord was more than a little step-up from the usual, but it was deserved. This was a good episode and I am relieved to see the fandom drama is only coming from a very few specific people. I already loved Spike’s interactions with Starlight and expected to see more good Spike scenes with him in that side role. Getting multiple good Spike episodes though? I am looking very forward to this season!
I agree. Too often people try way too hard to find fault with an episode only because they expected it to suck and don’t want to admit that they actually liked it. They’re too reluctant to disagree with their past thinking.
There’s plenty of Spike episodes I liked myself. What makes me glad about this episode is that it’s a Spike episode that almost everybody in the fandom agrees is a good Spike episode. Equestria Games on the other hand I didn’t enjoy so much. I mean it was an okay episode, but I was expecting an episode of the Equestria Games that was actually about the Equestria Games, with the focus being on the competition after all that setup from the mini-arc…then all of a sudden it had to be about Spike’s internal conflict with himself… It was a bit of a letdown.
Those were okay, but I’m talking about “good episode in general”, not “good for a Spike episode”. (Although it’s nice to see that the Crystal Empire treats Spike better than the fandom does.)
You. You I like.
@LuminoZero
Hey, that’s my favorite tactic too!
@TheOtakuX
As much as I disagree with you, and there are few in the fandom that I agree with less often, I respect that stance.
@Background Pony #4573
Yeah, I think if you go into an episode or movie or whatever with an attitude, “It’s probably gonna suck, but let’s give it a shot”, it’s far too easy to let that attitude lead you into looking for faults and shortcomings in order to justify your half-formed opinion.
@Dracorex
…Am I really the only person in the fandom who liked “Power Ponies”? Also, “Equestria Games” was excellent, but apparently Spike, unlike the other main characters, isn’t supposed to flounder for most of the episode before rising to the occasion at the climax.
@Background Pony #2ABD
Man, if your bait doesn’t get any bites here, then you oughta give up trying.
If you’re going to use bait, then you could at least use properly-spelled bait.
Now just stop writing Starlight episodes plz.
(not like it particularly matters for this example, but still)
All I read from that is “Stop liking things I don’t like.”
Edited
that episode was more a rarity episode than spike episode
that was shit
Edited
Hey, I liked Just For Sidekicks.
A Dog and Pony Show and Secret of My Excess were good. After that there’s… uh… …Goddammit.
Edited because: Unbiting the bait.
The best part of this is that I don’t have to give a rat’s ass about your opinion knowing that I liked it and that the general consensus of the fandom is that this episode was great. :P
