There are a lot of things that could have gone horribly wrong which her ability to relax animals wouldn’t have helped. Most of which would result in injury or death.
She was scared of the idea of a manticore eating a pony, not the manticore itself.

well that manticore was wild and she knew it was just in pain, this one is trapped and collared so it might be way more angry and violent.
