I’m not worried about that. What I was saying is that I’d prefer a movie to be used as medium to explore this lore (mostly because I think it was wasted in rushed flashbacks in the show, since they don’t really have the time to do it properly there). But since they’re not going to do this, it’s preferable that they don’t bother with that lore. I’m sure they’ll introduce new lore because of new locations and creatures though. But that’s not a problem and it’s likely not going to be overplayed.

Considering the vast majority of the movie seems to be taking place outside of Equestria, I don’t think we’d have to worry about getting bogged down by lore.

I like the sound of many villains and LOTR-influences. LOTR was both an adventure and a war story. So, epic pony war in this timeline, finally?

I umm… I got nothing. There’s always something to complain about, and there’s always a way to take it to the extreme and make it seem more complex than it is. I really don’t know what else to say to shis.

I suppose there might be a few “Little Mermaid” references too.

This is what people say about every movie based on every franchise and series ever. You can do that with any story you want to tell. Honestly, in this movie, I’d rather they don’t touch on the lore. Because if they do it, it’s going to be rushed and incomplete. If not, completely disconnected from the story.
 
MLP is a fertile ground for telling stories, with it’s fantastic and expandable world… That is what I expect them to do. It’s not bad in idea. The problem (to me) isn’t that they’re doing just that. the problem is that MLP does it all the time and forgets to build over what it already has. Really build. Not just wave and say that they remember about this other stuff, but don’t really care. The best piece of lore about alicorns we have is a half-hearted attempt at fitting Celestia and Luna into the story of Equestria that is so vague two people can read it and come to opposite conclusions about the characters.
 
People have been begging to know the story of these two characters that actually are important to the universe, both from the storytelling perspective and the in-universe perspective. What we’ll get is more of the “new same” that we already get from the show… This is going to be a movie that is not Equestria Girls, but actual MLP. I just feel like it’s another wasted opportunity because they don’t care about telling a story, just selling stuff. Again, which isn’t wrong, but the two can be done together.

Mmm. To my understanding, they’ll be presenting the movie in a way that anyone will be able to follow. It probably won’t require any knowledge of the show to be able to understand, so I imagine unless they find a convenient, fun way to re-tell some familiar characters’ stories, the movie will be self-contained.
 
I can totally see them inserting nods to the series that fans of the show will appreciate, but won’t lose people who have never seen anything pony previously.
 
I could be wrong, but that’s the angle I’m expecting.

I know that I may be alone in this, but rather than seeing another gimmicky creature and transformation excuses to sell toys (I know… I know…), I much rather learn about the damn alicorns. Get a decent piece of lore about Celestia and Luna. Maybe see Celestia DO SOMETHING. Maybe learn about Discord. This movie looks like it’s going to be breezies + every season opener and finale we’ve ever seen (and I’m tired of seeing).
 
It’s going to be more of the same, disguised as “new”. I can see it already: overpowereddarkevilbadmwahahaha is a threat; Celestia and Luna are useless; Cadance may be useless or may join Twilight; travel to Toysellland; Twilight’s friends are idiots but Twilight finds some MacGuffin; Twilight saves Equestria… While the other nations didn’t even know that some world-ending threat was going on. EPIC
 
I have no problem with turning the movie into a giant commercial rather than telling an interesting story. This is expected and to be completely honest, I don’t think that the two are mutually exclusive. But another lame attempt at epic… Maybe I’m letting my past experience cloud my judgement about a movie that is 1 year+ out but… I’d just keep my expectations low.

From the sound of things mentioned here and elsewhere, they have to visit a couple of different groups to look for allies/information in combating the threat.

I’m sorry, but transform into X so the characters blend into X-world is old hat. Hell, Equestria Girls did it already. We even had an episode (Breezies)! Please please pleeeeeease don’t make it a central point to the movie that’s supposed to have ponies as ponies…

Also ,you watch a show that is toyetic in nature,those kind of stunts shouldnt surprise and regardless of the toyetic nature of the stunt,your inner child are dead for so long that you cant comprehend that it can be funny and cute to see a pony transformed as a siren  
I could list all the work of fiction that done the “transform into a creature to follow them into their world” and got no shit for that but that would clog the comment section

I’m hoping this is just a late April Fool’s prank. If it isn’t, or the movie doesn’t meet my expectations then I’ll deny reality so hard it just won’t exist for me :D

Why do they feel the need to make ponies not be regular cute ponies? Why do they need to transform into other creatures?  
(And don’t say toys. They can introduce new creatures and sell toys without the mane 6 having to transform)
