Description

““And what do you think you’re doing in MY neck of the woods?”

There are those amongst the peoples of the Green Lands who are charged with keeping the realm safe, keeping to the shadows and the wilder palces, lest those with ill intent strike out at the innocent. Rainbow Dash is just such a person. As a member of the illustrious Rangers, she has travelled through many a dangerous place, with her trusty bow by her side, ready to strike out at criminals and bandits alike, all to keep the people secure. If she wants you gone, you’re gone, and with her excellent skills at marksmanship, there’s very little you can do unless you can get in close, which is unlikely. Brash, headstrong and quick to take offense, she is, in all honesty, not the kind of person one would like to cross. And yet, she remains a steadfast ally to those she calls friend, especially a certain woodland healer by the name of Fluttershy.

Generally you want the bow rotated (very) slightly. From Dash’s perspective, she’d rotate it clockwise, and have the arrow on the left side of the bow. This keeps the arrow from falling off of the bow, and allows you to relax your grip and rotate your arm out of the way of the string’s return path.
Ideally you wouldn’t need to grip the bow at all, but would simply seat it in the crease between your thumb and fingers; the force of you pulling on the string would keep it in place.

With her arm straight like it is, when she lets go of the string, it’ll hit her arm, bruising (and possibly cutting) the flesh there.

Also, by holding the string under the second knuckles of her fingers, when she lets go of the string it’ll rotate, forcing the tail of the arrow to the side and ruining her aim. (It also makes it harder to let the string go cleanly and increases the risk of injury to her hand.)

@DragonWraith
I can’t comment too much on the 2nd and 3rd points, not being much of an archer myself, but does it really matter which side of the bow you have the arrow on? Or does handedness actually affect the use of a bow and arrows?

Really nice image, but:
She’s got the arrow on the wrong side of the bow,
she’s holding the bow too tightly, and
she’s curling her fingers too far around the string.

She’s gonna have a bad time when she lets go of that string.
