Actually, as of episode 6, Starlight has now gained qualities which separate her from Sunset.
Sunset wouldn’t do what Starlight did (such as joking about her past as a comfort mechanism).

Yeah, I know! In boast busters, she easily defeated Applejack, Rainbowdash, and Rarity using real magic, so why is she now limited to stage magic and telekinesis?
I guess because it’s weaker than Sun-Star-Twi fare, it’s more a way of mocking it’s relative strength.
Like, you buy a small firearm, some ass says, “Go get yourself a real gun, lad!”
It just makes Trixie make no sense. She’s a unicorn capable of real magic who uses it to do fake magic? What? Or her line about how she couldn’t understand how Hoofdini did his trick! With magic!
We’ve seen her do real magic almost exclusively! Why did it take until now for her to change into somepony who can’t do magic? Ugh.
Starlight, Sunset and Trixie should have all been the same pony. Now we have Starlight, who has no personality and is basically just Sunset, Sunset who is never ever going to be seen again, and Trixie who has personality but a nonsensical past and talent.
