“Twilight, I am interested in where Trixie ended up after that duel in Ponyville?” Celestia asked, peering down at her pupil, a warm smile on her muzzle.
“We decided that she needed some professional help.” Twilight responded without missing a beat, “I visit her often, give her some encouraging advice.”
“How is she doing?”
“Very well actually. I have a great friend at the Ponyville hospital. She still needs time though, but she is getting there!”
“That sounds wonderful! I would say she should feel safe with you.”
“Oh yes, she’s very safe. Can’t harm anypony.” Twilight nodded.

The real ‘how things should’ve gone down’ would be for Trixie to appear in town with the Amulet, ask where Twilight was, only for other ponies to say “Oh, she had a meltdown a year ago where she cast a mind-control spell affecting nearly the entire town and now she’s getting psychological help’, only for a cutaway to a scene like this. Then Trixie is all ‘Oh, OK.’ and leaves.
But that would require the Mane 6 to actually suffer consequences.
