No wonder Rainbow Dash has been in so many fanfics. She can be any of her friends.

I knew some were going to be upset about the Spike gag.

Yet, I think Dashie had more painful physical comedy inflicted on her this ep’ then he has all season.

I couldn’t finish it. The moral was be yourself and speak up when other bully you. That meant nothing was going to change because at the end Dash would have just been herself. It felt like a Throw-away episode. Plus it started poorly with more Spikeabuse. After being a Dragon Lord…

I was literally the most bullied person in my school, I know what it’s like, thank you very much. And no, I don’t care if they call me what they used to call me, because at least I can get over something. I stopped caring about trivial shit that doesn’t matter, and I’m pretty sure a lot of other people did too. Rainbow Dash was oblivious to it being a term of endearment, making the whole plot of the episode down to her ineptitude to take a joke.
I can definitely relate to the bullying. And yes, time goes on, and with any luck you can put the name calling and insults behind you. That being said, even if Dash has not gotten over the teasing she endured in her youth with that particular name, the Wonderbolts certainly didn’t realize what kind of baggage it had for her. As they explain later, the embarrassing nicknames are kind of a thing for them, and they all have ones just as bad or worse. Had Rainbow bothered to talk about the issue rather than immediately leap into trying to fix it, the whole issue might have been cleared up right away. Still I can’t say that’s out of character for her either, since a big part of most Rainbow Dash stories is the fact that tends to avoid dealing with her emotions by engaging in (often dangerous) action. Heck, she’s even improved in this episode a little, because she actually tells her friends what’s wrong when they ask her, which might be a first for her in the series so far.

Not to mention, the whole “changing personalities” thing was really forced in. Yes in order to stand out from the crowd, you need to be the exact copy of someone else, good job. I don’t know how she managed to get to that conclusion, unless it’s literally just her being stupid again.
I can kind of see where her worry is coming from, but her solution to it just made no sense. It felt really forced.
As odd as it sounds, I actually liked that scene. I didn’t see it so much as her trying to exactly copy her friends, I saw it more as her trying to emulate the things most ponies seem to like them for. Her Pinkie Pie impression tries to capture Pinkie’s boundless enthusiasm and excitement for new things. Her Applejack impression is about honesty and an appreciation for hard work. The Twilight imitation is all about looking for ways to improve their performance as a team and offering her knowledge to help in that process. Her Fluttershy just wants to help because she cares a lot about the team, and even though I think her Rarity is the weakest one, she still draws on her friend’s love of fashion and talks about appreciating the bold designs of the uniforms. Granted, it’s not a great solution to her problem, but at the very least I think I can see why she chose those characteristics.

I wonder how would you handle if someone was calling you with insults from childhood. Anyone who was not bullied in school can not understand in what situation RD was in this episode.

I can’t quite place it, but that Pinkie Pie Dash is creeping me right the yay out.
