What? No. That’s ridiculously funny. XD
The Bible is more or less a guideline for Christians. While there are some moral values that everybody can follow, most of the stuff in there is directed towards Christians only.

Telling a non-Christian to follow those kind of rules is like telling an American woman to not wear jewelry because the al-Quran (Muslim version of the Bible, basically) told women to not show off.

Guess I’ll throw my two cents too.
Replying to a previous comment, there is a clearly stated rule in the Bible that if you carelessly throw away your life for no good reason (a.k.a. suicide or basically giving up on life), that action would send you straight to hell, since you aren’t respecting your body as a “church” of God (since you let Jesus into your heart and all that).

There is also quite a few verses in the New Testimony that say to “love others like how you love God” (don’t remember the exact words).

So, yeah, that’s about it.

Since we’re talking about religion, might as well throw in my two cents.

Personally, I choose to believe in two things: either there’s nothing after death and you just cease to exist, or everything is basically one big RPG game, where you play as any character you want, and when this character dies, you just choose another one, and you can play in any of the infinite alternate universes.

If it’s the latter, then that’s just great. And if it’s the former, then well, it’s not like I will be able to even realize that I no longer exist.

It really depends on how you define nihilism. There’s two definitions that are commonly used. One would be the complete rejection of all spiritual and religious principals, which is the one I was referring to previously, and the other is what I beleive you’re referring to here. That would be the belief that life is meaningless.

Actually, that’s not a very good interpretation of it. Instead of it being the statment that life is meaningless, it’s more the statment that there is no such thing as meaning.

Regardless, if I have my terminology right the former would mean that you’re a religious nihilist and the latter would mean that you’re an existential nihilist. There’s an important distinction there that I should have made that more clear in my previous comment.

I hope this doesn’t lead to religious comments being- oh no it did.

If we used coincidence as proof, then every conspiracy theory would become true too. There’s a reason we call it coincidence.
We use the same super strict rules for anything in science, like evolution, and that passes easily.
So, cmon. You really want us to loosen up the rules? And let anything that kinda seems true to be called fact? Not in the real world, no thank you.

@I Was Never Here
Christianity is the closest thing I’ve seen to a nihilistic belief. That this world is nothing more than a crappier version of what we’re about to see. That you can be as morally corrupt as you wish so long as you believe. That nothing on earth matters, life begins in death…

And they call me a nihilist? I enjoy life, because I realise how valuable it is. Any belief with an afterlife just degrades our real life. It makes us take it for granted. And can even make us throw it away.
Theists are waiting to be happy. Atheists are being happy.

Actually, if reincarnation were true, I doubt the memories would be retained. Because contrary to popular belief, your consciousness is not the same as continuation of existence. Or qualia, if you will. In theory, you could move your qualia to another person’s brain, and you would experience their consciousness. However, their actual actions wouldn’t change. At all. Because you are defined as whatever it is viewing the movie that is you, not the movie itself.

I’ve given a great deal of thought over what ‘you’ cannot be, which gave me some options on what ‘you’ can be. I’d go into further detail, but I’ve explained this so many times that it would just be a waste.
