Really? I think Vinyl Scratch is one of the greatest pony names. It rolls off the tongue, it’s cool, to the point, distinctive but not flamboyant… really, I cannot think of any more fitting name for the spiky blue-haired dubstep pone. :)

“Dee-jay pone three” is dumb. Would you say “Dead Mau five”? No. It’s based on leet speak, or more specifically, it’s a numeronym. You say “Dead Mouse”. That was the whole idea behind “DJ-Pon3” when fans came up with the name back in 2011 or even as early as 2010, on /co/.
 
Anyone (including employees at Hasbro* who don’t know better, a pox on them) who pronounces her name as “Deejay Pone three” has no knowledge or regard for how leetspeak numbers are meant to be read out loud. And “Deejay pone three” sounds dumb; oh wait, I already said that. You say her stage name as “Deejay pony”.

To be honest, I didn’t really like Lyra & BonBon’s voices, or Featherweight’s, so I’m admittedly a li’l afraid they might mess up her voice. (The others were fine though.) Admittedly, I do like Nowacking’s “laid back Californian girl” fan-voice for her.

I like to think she is a maute, and also, YAY Vinyl and Tavi are standing by one another.

If one must get technical, Vinyl, or rather P0N-3 (directly named in Prances), not getting a voice in Suited began the recurring attribute. Which I know is a misnomer because not every BG character is characterized or voiced.
 
I’d assume the mane reason others have issue with it is because she’s a Background Six(tm), and it doesn’t sit well knowing she’s unvoiced and the other five are.
 
Oh, but to reiterate, I like her mute. I suggested in a past image that she be in a background sketch of a Manehatten or city episode where her day job is as a politician or cop or another occupation that requires comical amounts of screaming. ;3

My personal headcanon is that Vinyl Scratch is a mute. It’s interesting because there’s very little portrayal of handicapped ponies in the show, AFAIK.
 
Of course, the more logical reason for her not speaking is probably because whatever voice she would get, the fandom would hate.

I personally like to think that she always used to try talking but always gets interrupted by somepony (ala older Maggie Simpson) before finally giving up and keeping quiet.

My headcanon is that Vinyl has a strict self-imposed rule of never speaking over music, sort of like what @Mr. Horrible was saying.
 
It’s that or she doesn’t like her own singing voice.
