If they do address it in the series again they yeah, it will be reconnected, I completely agree. Until then what has been said in the show is canon, you can't just ignore it. It's like the people that wanted to ignore anything with Twilicorn because Faust didn't want it to happen.


 
And again, don't focus on the "in Equestria", that's silly. I could go on to point out that they are in the crystal empire, not Equestria, that we have heard the phrase "what in the wide wide **world** of Equestria", meaning that they use "Equestria" to mean "everywhere" yadi yada. Important thing is what was said before: everyone is surprised at an alicorn being born AT ALL, seems to have been deemed impossible til then, and AJ and Rare say that becoming an alicorn comes from earning it.
